Has anyone tried the cottage cheese test?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried the cottage cheese test to see how much your pouch will hold before you're full?

If so, what were the results?

Thanks Lx

Can you use something other than cottage cheese? That is one thing I can not eat.

I must admit the thought of eating cottage cheese does turn my stomach a little but I've not heard of anything else. If there was another option, I'd be pleased to hear about it :-)

I think they use cottage cheese as it doesn't take much chewing.

Thanks for this, it makes interesting reading.

We don't use a 'cup' as a measurement in the UK.A cup of tea is usually served in a mug and a cup is one of those silly little things that you see on Downton Abbey, lol.

How many Fluid ounces would you say were in a cup?

I'm just 5 days post-op, and was told that my pouch now holds only 2 ounces, which is 1/4 cup. I guess eventually it gets to hold 4 ounces.

Well, I've bought my cottage cheese and I think I'll do the test in the morning - mmm yummy, as much cottage cheese as you can eat, lol. I can't wait ;-)

Still, it'll be good to know how much the new pouch can take. I will report back.

This site says do it within 5 minutes so that no food (if you can count cottage cheese as food) has time to leave the stomach.

It also says that basically you're ok as long as the amount the pouch will hold is less than 9 ounces. Jeez, don't you hear so many different things with this bypass malarky?

Ok I did it. I have to admit I'd forgotten how large amounts of cottage cheese can be gross but the results were that I are 210g which is 7.4 ounces.

So my pouch isn't tiny but nor is it huge. According to the link above up to 9 ounces makes no difference to weight lost.

Something to think about.

I think I need to try this. I just need to get past the whole cottage cheese thing 1st. I tried tasting it before and kinda grossed me out. I may try tho. Thanks for sharing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
