I'm 3 days post op and had a low grade fever last night (99.7). Had the same fever in the hospital and they did a white blood count test which was normal. Still a little concerned about that. Anyone else have this?

Also, I seem to be having more pain since I got home. I don't think the pain pills work as well as the IV pain meds. Tried taking 1 pill and couldn't tell, so I bumped up to 2 and I think I noticed but not as much as expected.

My pain seems to be in my lower abdominal area, which I'm assuming is normal for this stage. How was your pain at this point?

My pain was ok. I stopped my pain meds except at night in day 2 or 3. I had a temp of 100 the night of surgery when I left the hospital and it stayed elevates for a few days. The doc said it was normal and happens from the shock of the the surgery, the anesthesia, not breathing deep enough, and not being as active as we normally are. I took liquid Tylenol to bring it down at times. Did u get an incentive spirometer to practice taking deep breaths? If u did use that, some people said that helped being the temp down. Good luck!

"How was your pain at this point?"

Andrew

Welcome home

sorry you are having a little pain/discomfort

if your fever continues, call your surgeon (today is friday, so don't wait for the week-end)

if nothing else, he can reasure you that all is well, or tell you this or that for help

there is a saying here on the board

"the one thing we all have in common is that we're all different!!!

in other words for the most part no two people have the exact story regarding their surgery journey/weight loss/et al

many of us (me) have few problems or none immediately after surgery

never compare yourself to others - people have been shot for les

things do usually improve sooner than later :)

take care

feel better

good luck

kathy

Hi, Andrew

I had surgery the same day as you. In general, I feel okay. No interest in broth, food, etc. Just trying to keep drinking enough. I had an elevated temp in the hospital a couple times. They gave me a pneumonia shot and said maybe it was due to that. I also have a stinging, pulling in my lower left side. Maybe it is getting slowly better, but the pain meds don't help it. However, I am able to sleep and move around okay, except for bending over. Ow! I think what we are experiencing day three is pretty normal. Glad you made it through the bad weather okay. Next week will be better!

Glad to hear that all went well coach. I started the Protein Shakes today, which I hate but know they're important for my recovery . The pain seems to be much better today. Also, my prior meds were mostly discontinued but I've added a few new new ones . Tried taking a larger capsule and it went right down. Very happy about that.

Rest up and continue recovering ...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
