5 months post op and salad?

Recommended Posts

what are the experiences of people with raw veggie salad? i am 5 months PO today and craving salad big time. unsure of raw veggies.... my PO diet says "cooked and raw vegetables as tolerated." and then it lists a few fibrous ones you should avoid. thats it. input would be great.

At 5 months, I was allowed any food I wanted, but Frankensleeve did not tolerate lettuce very well. I could eat it, but it felt like food going down the disposal - with all the grinding and complaining Frankensleeve did.

If you are ready to try salad, do what I did. Take a small bite - like teaspoon size - wait 3 to 5 minutes and if all goes well, take a 2nd bite, wait 3 to 5 minutes. If my stomach tolerated a new food after the 2nd bite, I knew it was okay to eat bigger bites.

I'm just 3 months post, and I seem to tolerate lettuce, olives, shredded carrots and beets with a bit of country French dressing very well. Although it is a very small salad, maybe 1c total. Do you have a cheese Cake factory near you? They have a wonderful goat cheese and beet salad appetizer that you can get 2 meals out of for $6.00.

sorry, dont eat at chain restaurants. i make a pretty mean salad at home though! my PO diet says 1.5 cups of veggies daily, so 1 cup sounds perfect.

I have no problems eating salad or any other raw veggies or fruits except that I get full very quickly if I am not careful with eating my Protein first.

I started with spinach salad around 4 months, since cooked spinach went down just fine. It was fine & I've had a variety of lettuces since then with no issues, However, I usually eat the Protein off the top first & don't have much room left for much of the greens.

Lettuce is not very nutritious and it's very filling. I tend to use shredded cabbage instead of lettuce and use mostly the "fillings" instead of the leafy stuff. Lots of Protein (chicken, ham, egg, etc), peas, carrot, Tomato, beets, pickles, whatever looks good. I choose flavorful stuff and use a bit of cottage cheese instead of dressing. So good.

i would do baby greens, which are very nutritious, but not very filling. i stay away from raw brassicas (cabbage, broccoli, etc) because i am hypothyroid.

Sleeved 6 months a go. Can't do salad at all and stay away from raw veggies. meat is also a problem. I do better with chopped beef from BBQ. I guess I can't get it chewed good enough. My pouch prefers softer foods.
