Endoscopy and psych visit tomorrow

Recommended Posts

I kid you not when I say you'll be fine. The psych exam was extremely painless...I was concerned that I would fail because I have a history of anxiety and I am an emotional eater. But he was really nice and mainly asked questions about if I had a history of sexual abuse, what my family life was like as a child, how well did I understand the procedure, how I felt about knowing 85% of my stomach would be removed and if I had any history of an bulimia or anorexia. My exam was on a Friday and he told me the same day I'd be approved and he wrote my approval letter and faxed it to my surgeon that following Monday.

As for the endoscopy, it wasn't bad at all! I was put to sleep for the procedure, which I hear is better than when they allow you to stay awake. I posted in more detail about it here: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/290141-endoscopy/

Anyhow, *hugs* you'll be fine! I promise :)

I agree with comfy. Psych eval was NOTHING! Just be honest and use that time to gain as much help to ensure you'll never be in this situation again!

The endoscopy was ABSOLUTELY nothing! You don't even have to take your pants off. Actually, I don't even remember taking my bra off....I may have, just don't remember. You will lay on your side and go to sleep. A piece of cake!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
