Hi all... I've been reading what you all have had to say and so appreciate all of the information that I've read here. You all are great! Im new to all of this. I was banded on November 26 after a 2 week liquid diet. I just finished my 2 week post op liquid diet on Tuesday and am now onto "mushies" for the next 2 weeks. So, my question is - and I know this has been discussed before - I feel like there is a lump in my throat that I cannot get out. It's pretty far down and came on after eating some refried Beans (blended and made smooth). I cannot get rid of this. It doesnt hurt, not preventing me from eating or drinking, but it is very annoying and bothersome. It is also making me burp quit a bit...Is there anyway to get rid of this or do I just have to ride it out? Is this something that I need to call the office about?

Thank you all for the advice... Im sure there will be more needed at some point and I hope to be able to repay the information down the road.

Sometimes I get that same feeling. No pain but just some pressure. It's usually relieved after a small burb. Not sure if this is the same cause as what you are feeling.

Could be one of two things.

1. Swelling around the stoma area restricted the food and caused a little more irritation and increased swelling.

2. Swelling around the stoma area caused food to back up(eating too fast?) and made your esophagus expand which can also be an irritant.

Sticking to liquids or soupy meals for 24 hours should reduce the feeling? I recommend cold drinks to aid in reducing inflammation. Maybe chewing on ice chips or add ice to your Water and/or shakes?

Call your doctor if it's too painful though.

Sometimes the Beans can be a bit gassy and that can cause a bit of indigestion. It won't hurt to take a Gas-Ex or Beano or something along those lines.

Drink something warm, like Decaf tea as well. This will help to relax the esophagus and stoma and allow food to or gas to move on.

If you continue to have the pressure always give our doctor a call, that never hurts :)

you are describing perfectly what it feels like to have something stuck. the fact you can drink is amazing. when i have an episode like you are describing i walk first, flap my left arm while walking and if all fails i will drink some Water. usually this results in pbing or the Water comes up like a spit up and it brings the food that is stuck with it. it isn't throw up. it's not coming from you stomach but rather the pouch. but i did have an episode that i needed to stay on liquids for awhile and i found that warm tea was the winner. made me feel better. good luck and welcome to the world of band

Terry I love this! I am going to start doing this just because and I know for sure my kids will leave me alone when I am eating and I'll never get stuck again :)

Thank you so much for the replies! i think the warm tee helped. I will certainly try flapping my arms next time...LOL! My boys will get a huge kick out of that. :) I feel much better and the stuck feeling isn't there anymore.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
