Anybody else freaked out by the idea of never being able to enjoy carbs again?

Yeah Nola.

And I am a baker. For years I made all the bread in the house. Cakes, English Muffins, Bagels - you name it.

And I still bake, but I don't eat any...

And I really don't feel that I am suffering! Go figure!

hmm interesting, so it's like a detox period, I"ll have to try that Arts :) i've given up soda months ago and candy mostly now my thing is bread and pizza tho i mostly eat wheat bread anyway. and wheat Pasta. LOVE rice and may miss that but well see,. i guess the liquid diet before and after surgery sh ould service to pretty much detox you from that stuff. ( hopefully)

i'm pretty scared but committed to do my very best so well see what happens :)

Op, it's about moderation. I knew going into this surgery that I was not going to be able to say "never again" to my favorite foods, I think that's a setup for failure and bingeing. As long as you follow the rules and get your Protein in first, you are allowed to have a bit of bread, rice, rtc. Your capacity will be so much less that you really can't do much damage.

I have pizza when my family orders pizza, but I have one piece and often leave half of the crust. I have a piece of toast on occasion, with a piece of chees on it. It's all about moderation, this surgery was supposed to greatly help Portion Control and that's what it will do, you will have far less opportunity to overheat carbs if you are following the "protein first" rule.

I've spent 45 years eating whatever carbs I wanted, I am not afraid that I won't EVER have them now.

Maybe I'll change my mind, but I don't want to go back there. If this is the price, so be it.

I have mixed feelings about this. I am a bandaged with no fills yet and have a little Pasta (homemade spaghetti, very little on it) and if I chew a LOT, I can eat a small amount. Will I do it often, no. But, glad I can do a small portion.

Now a nice soft pizza shop sub, THAT was my weakness and still wish one bite. I have found I will just keep wishing and never do it. Besides, the band is to make right choices. So instead I'm enjoying learning what new healthy foods that taste fresh and healthy and know it won't sabotage my weight loss goals.

My thought...... Carbs are not your ( or my) friend. So let's get honest.... I didn't get morbidly obese from eating too many carrots, cucumbers or celery. That wobbly stuff hanging off my belly, butt and thighs are those stored carbs.... My carbs are all healthy carbs from fruit and veges...that is if I have enough room left over after eating my Protein. So let's see..hmmm....skinny jeans or Pizza....nuff said.

I've been and wanted to be a soft sub bread and pizza junkie. However, a month since surgery and I have had no subs, pizza, etc. However, since I have varied no restriction with no fills, I've made healthier homemade pizza for the family and had a tiny piece of that recently. Had a work function last week, they ordered pizza. Greese dripping off and for the first time, had no desire for it.

I just wanted to point out that this is the January 2014 Sleevers support thread. The bandsters are welcome of course but it made me wonder if this thread belongs somewhere else like the lounge? What so you guys think?

Have discovered while using this app on my Android that some threads are mixed. I just now noticed "sleeve" in the thread. I guess either surgery, those seeking WLS have struggled with carbs if they have been sleeved, gastric, or banded.

Life is about choices. Keep a food diary watch the scale and see if carbs is something your body needs. I think documenting how you feel after you eat it will also help. The best thing to do is be honest with yourself and see what works for you.

I was sleeved 2/12/13, have lost 96 lbs and have not missed any foods what-so-ever!

My husband was sleeved on 1-2-14 and that was his #1 concern. He was afraid he would have food cravings and miss eating. It's only 2 weeks after surgery but he's lost 24 lbs (including pre-op liquid diet) and he has no hunger at all and no cravings at all.

The best part is that he is a diabetic and is used to running 250-350 with his blood sugar checks. He has had no diabetic medication since surgery and his blood glucose is running 102-125 consitantly. He basically had the surgery to get rid of his diabetes. He has a total of 70 lbs to lose.

He was a hard core eater and sweet eater. I am very proud of him! :)

I had the band for 8 years and now have the sleeve. Day 5 of my sleeve.

With all of the troubles I had with the band I read a book called wheat belly. Great book, great way to live. I kept wheat out of my diet for a while and once I can eat again that will be how I eat.

I am a Big Mac junkie. I order Big Macs with out the bun in a salad bowl. I haven't had much bread since my band anyway and this tastes like a Big Mac salad! I think they even put a little extra lettuce in the bowl for you.

I'm excited about my sleeve I've changed my life style because of the band for so many years. There are great recipes out there for wheat free living and it really is fun experimenting with them.

I haven't really been able to have much spaghetti so I brought a spiral slicer that slices zucchini. I now have replaced spaghetti with zucchini and I love it!

I am wondering about sugar because with the band I could eat as much as I wanted and I always wanted too much! I am hoping and praying the I will not get strong cravings because I'm afraid of my mental and physical reaction from it.

At the moment I'm craving cottage cheese and apple sauce! Can't wait to get to the next stage lol.

I was sleeved on Jan 7th, I will be happy to eat EGGS! lol However, I too heard from various of people that they cant tolerate certain foods ie: pizza and Chinese (my 2 favorite foods). I honestly went head first into this and don't plan on looking back. I just put it In my head that this is it. No more games. I am done with feeling crappy and not fitting into nice clothes. Can I do without the pizza and Chinese for that? Hell yes!! It wont be easy, I am 10 days post op and still doing fluids and Protein Shakes and let me tell ya, chicken/beef broth is my dinner and Jello never tasted so good. (those are my new Chinese and Pizza foods) for now ^_^

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
