Recommended Posts

This wasnt the most plrasant of events but I did it. Now why do I have to wait four days to eat solid foods? I am so friggin' hungry I may get mean.... I know it sounds childish but I have been hungry for the last few days.. BANDERS HELL is right!!!

4 days that a lot, that why you loose so much weight all this liquid diet. My doctor better not make me wait 4 days to eat after a fill I will be angry.

My surgeon makes us wait the 4 days, too! Two days clear and two days full liquids. It gives you chance to have the swelling from the fill go down. Try to follow your surgeon's plan. You will be fine! Best wishes, Karen...aka..kll724

Congratulations, one more step toward the green zone. You did your pre-op diet, 4 days is going to be a snap compared to that.

Guess the post-fill time is also about really tuning Into the body so we can interpret those signals -- what is hunger, how frequent -- and, for me, are those just old habits telling me I should have something to eat? Good to sort all of this out and be willing not to have food. The band doesn't prevent us from eating, it just dims our appetite.

If your doctor is aggressive with fills levels, he may be trying to protect you from having a stuck episode which could cause your stoma to completely shut off any flow of food or liquids due to excessive swelling. This is a dangerous situation to be in so early in your journey so follow the orders as best as you can.

I had my first fill last week and my doctor told me liquids for the first 24 hours and then resume regular eating as long as it's tolerated. Said to avoid bread for awhile though. Since the fill, I have to chew even smaller bites and even slower than before to avoid them getting stuck.

I want to thank each one of you for your input. I was having some form of mental temper tamtrum right after my fill... my body was craving something kind of like an itch you can't scratch. I drank some cream of chicken -minus the chunks of chicken- and went to bed. Woke up next morning better and ready to lose weight. Sorry for the tantrum and thanks for letting me have it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
