Newly sleeved (Dec. 2) and enjoying the first week of creamed Soups. Question is... How much is too much? The past two evenings I've been able to eat a full cup. Up until then my stomach would start speaking to me when I started to reach the 1/2 cup mark.

Should I continue eating until I feel full or am I in danger of stretching my stomach and pulling a staple?

I'd say stop when you're full. My stomach would and still almost seizes when I'm full and try another bite. Good luck & take it slow. You'll know.

Keep in mind that the restriction is less with liquids. As you move to denser Proteins you will feel the restriction more. Stick with the amounts your surgeon recommends & don't push it this early out. Good luck!

You are going to find that when you start with puree 1/2 cup will fill you up. Take that extra bite and you will feel so full you are uncomfortable. I felt the same when when I would drink my Trader Joe's Latin Bean Soup the first week. I could drink that cup straight down. You are just fine.

The hospital guideline for stage two is 2-3 ounces in one hours time.

You've gotten good answers so far. I'd like to move this thread to the Post-op forum because you are likely to get more eyes on the thread and more feedback there, since your question is not specifically about pre-op or post-op diets. Let me know if you disagree. :)

Thanks Mistysj, that's a great idea!

I was sleeved on Dec 2nd ( still in full liquids until next Thursday), was told no more than 1/2 C per serving.

Thanks! I think I'll take your Dr's advice for the next few days. I have strict guidelines for all other foods but not for the liquid phases.

I'm glad you asked this question. I have no specific amount listed in this liquid phase either (sleeved 12/03), and I can often take in 1c. of puréed and strained Soup. I was worried that I don't have enough restriction, but the nurse reminded me liquids go right on through. The pre-mix Protein Drinks I have are 11oz. and often have more calories than the 8oz. of strained soup. I'll see what happens when I get to purees -- in eleven very loooooong days.

You will feel the restriction when you get to soft foods and definitely solids. 1/2 cup is a good guideline. You can always have another half cup in a few hours again.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
