My gastric sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! I'm currently 6 days post op and still on Clear Liquids til next Monday! Did anyone else struggle with being on clear liquids for so long? I've already lost 16 pounds but I just want a bite of food.

Oh yeah, I think we all struggle to an extent in the beginning. Some more than others.

I said the first thing I wanted when I was able to actually eat was 3 bites of a grilled cheese sandwich dipped in Tomato Soup because at the time sounded like the most delicious thing in the world to me. LOL as it turns out, after you're sleeved a sandwich anything becomes completely unimportant and totally not worth it.

Stay strong. It really does get much much better.

I'm 8 days out and on full liquids. A sandwich sounds really important right now. :)

Yeah I called today to see if I could have Tomato Soup because I just want anything solid! This is tough! But everyone's already noticing the difference so I can get through!

Did u ever have shortness of breathe? I've had troubles taking deep breaths occasionally?

Yeah, the liquids get tedious after so long. I was on liquids 2.5 weeks before and 3 weeks after. Are you adding in broths? That helps break the boredom. I also made sugar-free Jello and added powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein powders just to have something to chew. My surgeon allowed Greek yogurt smoothies at weeks 2-3 if you didn't have any problems with the clear liquids. It was like heaven!

Stick with it. Soft foods will be here before you know it.

By the way, shortness of breath could be caused by gas -- either the gas used during surgery or caused by the liquids. Are you using GasX strips? Or a PPI? Both will help with the gas.

Thanks so much for all the tips. No I haven't heard of those! What do they do?

GasX strips help eat up the gas bubbles -- get them at Walgreen's or CVS. And PPI's help prevent gas buildup in the stomach. My doc gave me prescription Prevacid in liquid form, but once I ran out of that I got over the counter chewable Pepcid (also at Walgreen's).

No not really. Only when I overeat.

I had a mixed blessing my 1st week post-op. I was in so much pain that I was only able to eat about 1/2 sugar free popsicle each day. I didn't want to think about food. But I concentrated on keeping myself hydrated. I figured I had enough calories stored in my fat to last through the winter! :-P

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
