Doc says no more fills

Recommended Posts

..im two years out from banding come next march. I havent lost all the weight that i need to lose yet, although my dr says im fine as i am. because i have joint and feet problems i know i need to lose more.. anyway... i have only about 3cc in a 12 cc band... i cant seem to cope with anymore than that at the moment. i just had a very small amount taken out two weeks ago. i was not good for months with that little extra in and im just settling down now. Im not losing and not gaining but at least im able to eat without discomfort and having indigestion all night.

sometimes i dont follow the amount guidelines i should.. like, for example i get really hungry for a good feed of veges. it may take me longer than a half hour to eat it but i feel i need it.. so i have it. That doesnt always happen though. mostly im pretty good with portions. They arent as small as some have but not huge either.

If i eat more than i should at a meal i can be sure that through the night im unwell and have to sit up all night. not nice. My lack of self control has always been an issue with me in the past. Good thing is the band cuts right across that. Im so glad that it does. some days i can only have Soups most of the day. thats fine. i just have soups that i like. im lucky that i like Soup. other days i can have more solid food, and foods that i really enjoy, like crackling from roast pork. so, its a day by day thing. I know that i cant take any more fill than i have right now though... too much discomfort. It will be interesting to see if i ever can take more. im about three months between visits to the specialist now.

Being so tight that you can't eat is the very reason erosion happens. It's not that I want to do it this way but I am in the green right now with 3cc's. When you have a very tight band and eat the food pushes the band into the wall of the stomach and over time that band will erode and have to be removed. How long do you think a band can stay tightly around the stomach and not erode into the stomach? It's like putting a tourniquet on an arm or leg cutting off it's blood supply if its left on there too long that arm or leg will have to come off. It's no different with the band. Mark my words on that.

i have had restriction from the start (i have plication and some primer in band)

and along with eating my allotted suggestion by my doctor, i let my band tell me when enough is enough....the signs are there.....(i have baby hiccups) and i can also feel (when i am getting full).....i feel many people are expecting the band to let them stop eating..... i am sure i could eat sliders all day long but i choose not too..

of course i knew when i was eating fast foods it was not the best thing for me but i did it...and yep, no self control..but we all have control..we know not to step ouff the curb in front of a bus...self control...

..but i told myself if i got banded, i would do whatever it took to lose weight....and my dr said i must eat better and exercise and let the band work.....i think everyone needs to do that also....with or without fills....do what works for you.....do it healthy and get on with it...

wishing everyone on this thread all the best and know i am proud of you all...

reading posts inspires me to hang in there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
