I'm getting sleeved on the 13th of January. My only fear is silly. I don't mind needles and things like that. However, I really don't want to have a catheter put in. I had read through some posts and it seems pretty common. what was your experience?

I had a catheter for the first day. I was a band to sleeve revision. I had no problems after it was removed. A friend of mine had the same doctor, was a first time wls patient and she did not have a catheter.

Ask your doctor if he uses them on patients during surgery. If he does use one, you will most likely be out when it is placed. Sometimes they remove it before you wake up also.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery.

I also had the same fear just got out of surgery 6 days ago myself. on my initial surgery I did not have to have a catheter due to it only being a 1 and a half hour surgery. However I had to go back under the knife for an additional 4 hours due to complications and I woke up with the little gift you mentioned above. didn't much enjoy it myself but it was bearable. they put it in while I was under so all I can tell you is my experience with the removal. not fun. good luck I bet u wont need one.

Hi. I had the same fear! I was sleeved September 9th, I asked before and was told, one would only be used in the event of complications. I didn't get one!

I'd say the same, ask your Dr. Good luck, and best wishes!

I didn't need one when I was sleeved.

No catheter for me. My doc said taking a leak was a good incentive to get out of bed quickly after surgery.

Good luck.

I had one. I didn't even know it was in. I also was apparently urinating and didn't know it. It did feel strange coming out, but nowhere near as bad as I feared.

I didn't have one for my sleeve. But I did for my TT. It's really not that bad. They out it in while you're asleep usually. And taking it out takes less than a few seconds.

I woke up with a tube hanging out of my johnson. They took it out @ 4 am the following AM.

I don't mean to freak you out, but this was my primary fear heading in too and it was by far the worst thing of the surgery experience. When I woke up from surgery it was the first thing I noticed. It hurt when I walked. Taking it out might have been the worst 4 or 5 seconds of pain I have ever felt. And it hurt like hell to pee the first few times after taking it out. And something very strange happended .... I farted out of it a few times after when I would pee.

That being said it was worth it although I didn't really see the need for it. I was up and walking a couple hours after surgery.

Had one too and was a first for me as well and was one of my big fears going into surgery. They put it i when I was out and was in for 24hrs before they took it out the next day. Can't say it was the most pleasant part of the surgery but was not painful for me and nurse taking it out was very careful.

I didn't have one. I asked my doc before the surgery and he told me I wouldn't have one.

I had the joy of the catheter because my hospital requires them if surgery is over 2 hours.

I walked two times within the first 3 hours so they asked if I wanted it out and I said YEP!!!! It didn't hurt coming out but the first few times I urinated it burned bad!

I found out the next day that my Dr had difficult time putting the catheter in me because my opening was small due to some extra skin or something. Dr said I may have more discomfort urinating because of this so I am not sure if everyone else has same amount of burning. It is 3 days later and it isn't burning anymore.

I told the nurse if this is what it feels like if a guy has a STD then I am never getting one!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
