I am scheduled to be sleeved Feb 4th. My surgeon and nutritionist tells me it'll take about an half hour to drink a cup the size of 2 medicine cups (if that makes sense). Did anyone have to go through this? Sounds annoying and if so what did you do?

Yes, you will be sipping fluids slowly! this is the best way to prevent dehydration throughout the day. My surgeon advised me to take 2 large sips every 15 mins. gulping your fluids can cause extreme discomfort. now that im a bit further out i fill up a 20 oz bottle and take that to work and sip throughout the day, at least i know im getting in 20 oz of my 64 oz for the day. if i gulp the liquids, then it feels like its stuck in my throat.

Yep... I went through that. I'm almost three weeks post-op, and that was super annoying, but I followed the drink super slow mantra for about 10 days. I've been super lucky and have no problem with fluids, and can already drink an 8 oz glass of Water in 1 - 1 1/2 hours instead of 2. I am glad I did what they told me to at first though... learned about not drinking air, smaller swallows, etc. When I had my first post-op at around 12 days, I told my nurse practitioner that I seemed to be able to get more in and she said that was fine. My advice? Do what they tell ya! :-)

We have all done the slow sipping, I will say I was NOT able to drink anything super cold the first 3-5 days. It caused my stomach to cramp and hurt. I did better on room temp Water, or warm drinks, like warm Decaf tea (what I was served in the hospital) and warm chicken broth. It seems to sooth the soreness away, and also I felt like I was getting real food in me.

Another thing, plain Water made me REALLY nauseous (and still does somewhat) so make sure you have some flavoring or Protein Water on hand for a while. Most everyone I know didn't handle straight water well for a while.

Good luck to you! Yes, it is a drag sip, sip, sipping - but "this too shall pass!"

Another great trick, I made sugar free Jello and before it would set I would drink it warm. It made me feel full, and was still sugar free. It's an old trick my mom used to use when we were sick, and dehydrated to get us kids to drink more liquids.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
