IndigoChild 27 Posted December 10, 2013 My Steri-Strips are itching so bad, I understand that means my incisions are healing. But I'm so scared to shower, I saw my flesh coming out of one of them. OMG!!!! When mine started itching, I pulled them off. Washed the area really well with soap and Water and covered the area with a LOOSE bandaid. Instant relief! It may help you heal better to get a little air in there. Hope this helps! 2 _imgood_ and is it just me reacted to this
gomekast 559 Posted December 10, 2013 You need to shower daily with those! It's the only sure way of doing your part of keeping them clean and free of infection. Their annoying yes but showering will also ease a lot of the itch. 2 _imgood_ and is it just me reacted to this
notime 340 Posted December 10, 2013 (edited) DON'T pull them off. They will come off when they are no longer needed. You do need to shower and soap that area up though. Hang in there, it won't be long before they come off of their own accord. Edited December 10, 2013 by notime 1 _imgood_ reacted to this

Mama Spike 144 Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) Nothing wrong with removing and replacing with new steristrips. You can get them at any drugstore. Edited December 11, 2013 by Mama Spike
gomekast 559 Posted December 11, 2013 Nothing wrong with removing and replacing with new steristrips. You can get them at any drugstore. You run the risk of breaking the seal and removing the glue that's holding the incision closed in the process. My surgeon and many others are against removing them yourself before your supposed too. Their put there to prevent infection and keep them sterile.

As a nurse and someone who has had multiple abdominal surgeries, it does not significantly increase your risk of infection to remove and replace when they start lifting.
