gemini607 0 Posted March 15, 2007 Hey all! Love reading all the posts. I'm new here. My name is Cheryl. I've been looking into the lap-band forever and even though I've had several Dr.'s write letters to my insurance but there was some sort of exclusionairy clause and it wasn't coverred. We switched carriers this year and it's still not covered. Surprisingly my parents have offered to help me pay for it. I still can't believe it! I looked into the gastric by-pass way back but it sounded kinda scary. I'm 42 and weigh 344. I'm only 5'4''. It has definitely taken it's toll on my health. I had a partial knee replacement 2 years ago and lost 60 lbs. but was too heavy for the replacement and got leg fractures. I've been in a wheelchair for a year....only able to walk small distances. Now I'm recently diabetic and I feel like I'm going down hill. Feeling much better now that I know I will have the lap-band. I go to the seminar tonight here in Cincinnati and my consultation is March 29. I can hardly wait. Sorry I rambled on so much. I'm also a little technically challenged and haven't figured out how to make a ticker or anything. Where do I go from here? :help: Cheryl
SillyWillyMommy 2 Posted March 15, 2007 Oh my goodness... sounds like you've been going through a rough time. How are you knees feeling now? Are you still in pain?? Try to keep your head up.... You'll be up and out of the wheelchair in no time!! So, did your insurance company(ies) not cover the lap band specifically for you, or not at all?? Glad your parents are helping you self pay... what a blessing :-)
niecyrenee 2 Posted March 15, 2007 Hello Cheryl! I am sorry to hear you have been through so much. My heart goes out to you. Things are going to get better though! You are so blessed to have parents who are willing to help with the costs. It's wonderful to have a family who supports your decision! I wish you the best of luck and hope to hear from you soon saying your surgery is scheduled!
gemini607 0 Posted March 15, 2007 Yeah, my knees are hanging in there. Not too much pain in the last week. My insurance wouldn't cover anyone where I work...not just me. I did call to see if there were any cancellations to get my consultation moved up and I was able to get it a week earlier on next Thursday. :success1:
Kat817 19 Posted March 15, 2007 WOOOhooo---sounds like the ball is rolling now!!! Welcome to LBT!! It is an awesome place to be when even thinking about being banded! When you are going through the surgery and the aftercare, it is even better!! I bet your knees will be sooo much better. I have had both of mine operated on but not repalced, although they tell me that is in my future. I am so glad that when it happens, I will have less weight to support following it. I know my knees already appreciate the loss! I carried in my sleeping grandson yesterday, and he weighs like 22 pounds, and I was panting---I cannot believe I walked around every day with like 3 1/2 of him on me!!! Amazing difference---and I know you will feel it too!!! We are so glad you are here--- If you don't mind I can PM you with ticker instructions. Kat
juliegeraci 7 Posted March 15, 2007 Cheryl, I am so happy for you. You should be out of that wheelchair in no time! I think you will be astonished how great the weight loss is with the band. Just stay with the plan. You will do great.
