Protein Vs Fat

Recommended Posts

I have just started my 4th week post op. Looking for high Protein options for food. I have found some high protein I can find low or no sugar/low carb but I find the fat is a little high. Are you guys seeing this too?

Also, Laughing Cow light cheese wedges - are these ok?

So if the carbs are low, sometimes the fat will be high because we've only got three things to play with: Protein, fat, and carbs.

I have my P/F/C ratio set to 40/40/20. I keep carbs low but raise my fat gms to allow me to do that. Laughing cow wedges are a staple for many of us.

I'd suggest unless it's dairy (eg. skim milk, or 2% cheese), don't do anything low fat because they take the fat out and put sugar and other unhealthy things to compensate for the lack of taste.

You're better off choosing things that are naturally lower fat like forgoing sausage for lean beef, etc. if you are trying to save calories.

I have mine set at 50/30/20 and avoid sugar like the plague. And heed her words on avoiding no or low fat products outside of dairy...that's usually a sugar trap, as she stated.

If you are trying to save calories and focus on Protein, I hope you like fish! :) I don't eat beef. I eat some chicken (usually canned for chicken salads), a ton of fish (especially salmon) and a ton of broccoli, brussel sprouts and asparagus. Cottage cheese (Walmart full fat large curd is so yummy), light string cheese, yogurt (Walmart light), Isopure drinks and Premium Protein Drinks are all staples every day.

I have a million bariatric recipes, but I am personally a repetitive eater....I eat the same things all the time. It's just easier that way and I always have a cheat (within reason, of course) on Sundays...mixing up the caloric intake to keep my metabolism guessing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
