Last Friday I had preop testing including a barium swallow. It wasn't too bad. I also had pre and postop education. Word to the wise, do not buy anything until they tell you exactly what you'll be eating. I was out buying and trying all kinds of Protein Shakes and then they gave me a list of the ones they want me to use. None of which are the ones I was trying. lol. I also didn't realize that my MD only wants you on Protein shakes for about 2 weeks or so. They really push changing over to solids. In one way, this forum is so helpful because everyone is going through the same thing, but you also have to realize how different every pre/post testing and diets are, so you can't just assume that you'll be doing it the way everyone else does.

I'm very excited about the surgery on the 18th. I'm ready to change and my awesome hubby is going to do all the diets with me even though he's not getting surgery. I love it! I did have a moment of panic last night thinking about anesthesia. I have never had surgery before. I work in a semi-surgical area of a hospital and know a lot about anesthesia, but I'm still nervous though I know I shouldn't be.

I just want the 18th to be here. I'm ready to get this done! Tired of being fat!

lleepers, you are so right about everyone and everyones doctor being different. Some of us even have the same surgeons and our plans pre op and post op are not the same.

Follow your doctors orders are paramount to success!!! If you like certain shakes and you already purchased them if they don't expire for a while you can use them when you get your fills maybe, but always follow what the docs have planned for you and ask questions.

My Dr. liked the medifast but I didn't so I asked and I was able to use what suited me as long as it fit certain nutrition guidelines and calories.

Ask questions and speak up, even if your nervous about the surgery or something always good to let people know what's going on with you so they can relate to you and comfort you as well.

Nerves are a big thing as you get closer, I was anxious like you and couldn't wait to get it done. Hubby was nervous and a bit worried about my surgery and then his. I had mine first and he was feeling better when his turn came though still nervous. I'm an old hat having surgery several times through out my life, he never had and was more nervous then me.

Take deep breaths and give your self some TLC as you get closer to your date. Best wishes for a speedy and smooth recovery!! Let us know how you do!

The problem with buying things before surgery is that your taste change after surgery. I am sure that a doctor is going to let you throw expensive Protein shakes away then use them but I am for no shakes after surgery once you are clear to eat because most shakes are at least 1 to 2 hundred calories and that is food I could be eating then drinking. Whatever you bought you will probably not even want it. Its been four years and I can clearly remember buying chocolate and banana Protein powder because they were good and after surgery I threw out the banana because I could barely stand it let alone smell it. Good luck with your surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
