I had surgery on Nov 27th and felt pretty crappy the first 5 days or so - but been little by little feeling a bit better - still very easily worn out. I lost 12 lbs and then it went into a complete stall and I actually gained 1.5 lbs which freaked me out!!!

I am wondering if this is fairly normal? I am eating next to nothing - probably not more than 300 calories a day and that is forcing in the Protein Drinks down to get to that 300 calorie number and still get in 70-90 grams Protein. I am trying to stay pretty well hydradated and am probably getting in around 80oz of Fluid if you count the boullion, Protein drinks, some Water, tea and a little coffee.< /p>

I am scared to death that in a couple of days when I can start pureed foods that I will actually gain more weight -- what is going on?

It's normal because your body has started going into starvation mode and is hanging on to anything it canon clouding fat. You have to keep consuming Protein and sufficient amount of calories in order to lose the fat.

Your body has shut you down...300 calories tell your body that you are in starvation mode...It will do anything it can to protect you.....Isn't the body an amazing machine..!!!

You should drink some more Protein shakes and drink some G2 Gatorade even though you think you are getting enough Fluid..

Once you up the calories your body will relax again and allow you to drop some weight..Also the meds and crap they put into your system when you had the surgery takes time for it to leave your body..Your body is also under stress from the surgery alone. It takes time for it to realize you are okay....

You are now geared to lose weight..It is going to happen..K try to relax about this little setback!

Your body will fluctuate the first few weeks. Don't worry about it!!
In fact, I would step away from the scale for a while and only weigh at doctor's appointments - go by your clothing size, it's a much better gauge anyway :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
