Ree 215 Posted December 8, 2013 Anyone ever worry that their surgeon will do the wrong surgery and instead of doing the VSG, they do a gastric bypass or lap band on you? I know it's so stupid to worry about something like this but the NUT kept on getting confused and kept on thinking I was getting gastric bypass so now I'm worried. ribearty 544 Posted December 8, 2013 Ree, When you are in the hospital on surgery day, you will have so many people asking you what surgery you are having. You will be asked your and birthday a lot also. They have your chart which states the surgery and they are making sure that your answers match what they have. The doctor and hospital also know what surgery the insurance company has approved. They will make sure you have the correct surgery. Your doctor's nutritionist probably sees a lot of patients and it is hard to remember each patient's surgery. I don't know if she has your chart with her when you are meeting. I wouldn't worry about them not performing the correct surgery on you. Good luck to you when you have your surgery. 2 Memily and Sabredy12 reacted to this
RJ'S/beginning 5,358 Posted December 9, 2013 you will have to sign a permission slip for the surgery even to take place...Before signing ask if it is for the sleeve....K
MichiganChic 3,262 Posted December 9, 2013 Yes, I was. At first I signed a consent for the RNY, then changed my mind. At the hospital on the day of surgery, they were confused. I made a really big deal about clarifying it with them and the surgeon before I went in. They actually had two different consents on the chart - I made them give the wrong one back to me! 1 VSGAnn2014 reacted to this
