I am new out still, am 6 weeks out. I regret it every day. I am so tired, and all food makes me ill. But, I am not sure yet f I would actually want to get it reversed. I know it will get better. So regrets, right now yes, but I am not sure I would regret it a year from now :)

Sorry if this made no sense, I have been in a fog and am clumsy and not at all with it.

I also had a hard time the first weeks. I maybe had second thoughts.. After about eight weeks, things turned around, especially after I started walking. Depression after surgery is a side effect at times. You may feeling very differently in a short while.

Thank you all so much for your thoughtful, encouraging and honest replies. I think I'm just mostly scared about surgery. I have a friend at work who is four months out, has lost 70 pounds, but is just now getting energy back. This forum has helped manage expectations a lot - everyone is different, but it's been great to hear the challenges too so that I know I'm not alone if something is tough. Thanks all for your support! One-week pre-op diet starts tomorrow, along with ultrasound and pre-testing. :)

You look very young in your picture. You've read other posts that say, "I wish I had RNY sooner"That being the primary regret. You had enough hindsight to complete all the requirements. Now you are prepared to begin a new stage of your life. As DL Cloggins says, "You are going to love the New You!"

Thanks a bunch! I hope I don't lose my youthful glow when my face isn't so chubby!

Heck no, absolutely no regrets. I wish I could have had this surgery 10+ years ago. I wasted all my youth on being miserable, embarrassed, worthless, ugly and hating myself. Such a shame!

The first few months will prove to be difficult as with any kind of major surgery but it's so beyond worth it. No more medications for all the hundred pains in each corner of your body, no more elevated blood pressure and being told you are close to a heart attack, no more sweating like a waterfall, no more crying in the changing room, no more judgement because of your size and no more days where you want to hide yourself from the world and live secluded from humanity because you can't fit in.

All these generals make this surgery a blessing to obese folk.

As you said, everyone I different. I was cutting grass (1 1/2 acres) only 8 days after my surgery. I was back to work full time at two weeks. I felt great! I never had the energy drain that some people felt. Don't worry abut what MIGHT happen, because it MIGHT NOT. Do be prepared just in case. :-)

You're so right on...all of my life, weight has been an issue. I'm done, and I want to realize my true potential where my spirit and body are strong and healthy! Still scared, of course... and I'm afraid of "mourning" my old ways and foods, but I look at it this way: I gave up a lot of life for food, and now I'm ready to give up a lot of food for more life!

No doing it sooner is really my only regret. Exercise as much as you can now. Make an inspiration board. Follow the rules to a t. You will do awesome!

I just got my surgery date for 12/19. I feel I'm ready - I'm so done with the exhaustion, joint pain, no energy, etc., and I want to lead a healthy, active life - but now that it's real, I'm getting scared. I told my doc that I'm mostly just afraid of the medical things (I.e., surgery going well), and I know it's a massive lifestyle change, but i feel pretty good about it and have great support. So I'starting to stay positive, but am starting to freak a little. I've heard it's common to have those "why did I do this" thoughts during the first month after....but do you have any regrets now? I need some encouragement (which is really difficult for me to request!)... Hoping you can help, and would love to hear your stories over overcoming fears and regret. Thanks in advance!

My surgery at 11am tomorrow good luck????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
