Dec. 3, 2013 was the day I had the opportunity to start regaining my life back. I chose to have the gastric bypass performed and had to endure the infamous 2 day pre-op diet. I must say that that was the hardest thing ever for me. On surgery day, all was well until the actually procedure began. During the procedure it was revealed that I had a hiatal hernia and my stomach had been positioned in my chest area. Nevertheless, he took care of those issues and everything was fine from that point. Now, I'm 5 days post-op and I'm sore without any pain. I've lost 6 celebrated lbs. since my surgery and plan on checking again during my first post-op apt Dec. 16th. The only challenge I've encountered so far is keeping on the eating schedule. I find myself falling asleep and messing that thing all the way up. Hopefully, I'll get better managing it soon.

My surgery was Dec 2 and I can definitely identify with you. How are you doing with your fluids and Protein y'all. When do we start exercise other than the walks while the body heals? I go back to the surgeon Dec 12 and can't wait to ask all this questions. Goodluck y'all!

Hello tip3rd and ghopeful. Congrats to you both on your sugeries. I just keep sipping throughout the day. My Protein intake is going well. Right now I'm not loving the taste of the broth or cream of chicken but l'll manage. Trying to get in my metformin and Vitamins throughout the day was kind of crazy in the beginning. We were given a sample menu, measuring tools, etc. but never explained really when to take the vitamins.

Good luck on your journeys!! I will be 1 year out Dec. 18th. I have done well with no regrets. I've lost around 130 pounds. Don't exercise until your doctor says. It was about 3 weeks for me. My life has changed so much. You are going to love how you feel. When you aren't losing the pounds it seems like you're listing inches. Be patient because there are times you will be frustrated. Also never compare with others. I will admit its hard not to. Have a wonderful day!!

Hello everyone!!! I had my first post open visit on the 16th and the doctor said I'm doing well. I've lost 18 lbs so far and can tell the difference in the way my clothes fit. I've been cleared to do about exercises in 3 wks, but to start walking with weights now. My incisions are healing well and just look like little scratches on my stomach. This is so exciting!!!! I hope everyone else is also still doing well. Have a beautiful day.

Hi everyone. So as we all know the best part about this journey is finding the right Vitamins,

Protein, etc. Well, I think I've hit the jackpot with the calcium citrate, and it's carried at the Vitamin Shoppe. The brand is Solar and it's liquid and strawberry flavored. Oh, it also has magnesium and Vitamin D3.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
