I have been reading through this thread and I am very eager to know how much exercise you are doing and what kind of exercise. I was just banded on the 13th, and I can't wait to start exercising. But like you I want to lose it as quickly as possible. I just figured, why hold on to it if I don't have to. I know that the weight loss process slows down, so I would like to get as much of an impact as possible as quickly as possible. I am at 238 right now, and would like to get to 150 like tomorrow. HAHA. But seriously, I want any advice that you can provide. I have an elliptical machine, treadmill and exercise bike at home. I'm not really in pain, just a bit sore for my surgery on friday, but want to know how I can get the best start on my weight loss.

Right now, I'm at about 600 to 800 calories per day, mainly sugar free pudding, the Protein shakes until next week, then I will move to soft foods. But I'm not craving anything at all

Thanks in advance,

jlg

I'm also pre-band. I never consume more than 1200 calories per day and sometimes, as little as 800. I almost never eat sweets or Desserts. If I have Snacks, they consist of raw veggies or popcorn. I have always been a healthy eater but it seems as if my metabolism didn't just slow down in my 40s, it literally died. I also exercise (walking). I am in the process of finding the perfect bicycle now so that I can add bking to my exercise for a change of pace. I gave up the personal trainer after no weight loss, only inches, in 1.5 years. It was just wasted money since there were no results. It is so frustrating to do everything right and yet have a weight problem!

what are you eating bubble? I am so impressed with your weight loss and really enjoyed your post about chosing a mexican sugeon. I also am struggling to get calories in - I am drinking protien shakes - but what are you eating on average? thanks!

I eat anything and everything, just not much of it. ;o) Just got back from having lunch with a friend (something I could never do banded as I'd get stuck and have to barf) and I ordered a shrimp cocktail w/pico de gullo and onion rings. Had about 5 shrimp and an onion ring. Oh... and a very cool drink, forget what it's called but it had three shots of rum. Needless to say, I did not drink much of it. ;o)

Most of my diet is veggies and since I don't eat much Protein I do drink Protein Shakes but I like them so it's not an issue. So usually it's something like this...

Meal #1: Protein shake

Meal #2: Steamed veggies with various oils and spices

Meal #3: salad of some sort

Meal #4: Tortilla w/refried Beans, pico de gullo, cheese, taco sauce

Throw in malted milk balls, Gummy worms, or a chocolate bar and that's an example. ;o))) I'm dealing with a sweet tooth lately. Heh...

I also eat stuffed bell peppers, burgers, lots of wild rice, Soups, veggie wraps, BLTs with a tortilla instead of bread, etc.

And fat is stored fuel. :tt2:

Each person has to do it their own way.

I totally agree, when you have too many calories and not enough excercise then you will gain weight.

to lose weight you have to increase excersice and decreasee calorie intake. the reason people hit a plateua is cause they have been doing the same exact thing for too long. to break a plateau you have to either cut calories or increase excersise, or both. Think weight watchers...if you follow their program...they will decrease the amount of points you are allowed a day because you are losing weight and don't need that many anymore.

I found that my low average before the lap band was around 2k a day with no exercising. Now I am averaging around 1,000 a day. After a fill it is of course less and right before a fill it can be a couple hundred higher.

My last fill I haven't felt as much restriction but I'm learning how this goes.

I've done some research and there is a spot (in caloric intake amts) that people actually stop loosing and their body kinda goes into a holding pattern.

Yes the old, expend more calories than you eat, does equate to weight loss but if you go too low your body goes on hold. The big thing is to chart what you eat; drink fluids as recommended; be aware of your pouch; chew chew chew; and of course exercise or move every day.

1000 - 1200 cals here , keep journal to get everything I possibly some days I manage fine and some I feel hungry but I think this down to my ignorance of foods and their nutrional values , but I read up daily and learn more and more each day about the foods I am now eating.

This thread got me thinking about calories and I realized I had no idea how much I was eating. I knew I was eating less but that was all. As I get closer to goal the slower the weight is coming off. I started keeping a journal on livestrong.com "The daily Plate". It is free, I love it and I am completely hooked. I thought I was eating enough protein...I was wrong. I have only been tracking for 2 weeks and the weight loss is picking up. I am eating 900-1200 calories. This allows me 3 meals and an afternoon snack. Hopefully by my band-aversity (May 12th) I will get to post on "Who has lost 100 pounds"! :)

I usually have around 500 calories a day. Sometimes a bit more and sometimes a bit less.

May I ask you what you eat? I know I'm eating more than that. My Protein Shakes have about 250 calories and I try to have 2 of those per day. I want my Protein. I'm scared to death of losing my hair and getting all sickly looking.

Ive been averaging about 500-700 calories a day, usually more on the low side. I haven't had more than 20 calories a day in weeks now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
