Today is day two of my two week pre op diet. liquids only with one Protein Bar daily. I find myself not hungry cause I'm drinking so much but it doesn't help that my family orders pizza for lunch and is eating it right in front of me. So, I guess I'm trying my hardest but I ate some of the cheese and pepperoni topping. Anyone else have family not trying to sabotage but their eating habits are affecting yours? I need some help here. Maybe some word of encouragement or advise. I'm so lost. And this bouillon, crystal light, Nd Protein Shake only diet is already getting to me. FYI surgery is December 20th.

I did not eat with my family the entire time I did pre-op...I did not even cook for them..They were on their own as I was..this was about me and what I had to do to be healthier....

you might want to leave the room even if you still have to cook for them....

You know..later when you are in the throws of the journey..you will be able to handle all of that stuff..There may even be that you won't want that kind of food after the sleeve..

But for now you are vulnerable and have to take what ever action works for you. You want to shrink your liver so that it will be easier for the surgeon to do the operation.....

They will just have to understand..It is about you, and you have to do it for you...Hope it helps.. :)

I sat down with my husband and told him how much important this was to me and I really needed his help. He actually started dieting with me. No sweets in the house except for Sherbert or Frozen Yogurt. He only cooks lean meats now. Maybe you need to sit down and pour your heart out. It made my diet and now me new life style so much easier. I did this surgery to be healthy for my family and to make my family healthy as well. Hang a picture of yourself on the fridge or cabinet where your plates are.

Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
