Already Regretting Rny 11 Days Out...

Recommended Posts

I'm a 30yr old female 11 days post op in the midst of yet another meltdown. I'm single, no kids, severe PCOS, sleep apnea, high BP, had blood lots in both lungs 3yrs ago, and just found out 2wks before surgery that I have a clotting disorder. Aunt Flo arrived during my 1st wk of pre-op diet...and is still here. I started blood thinning shots Lovenox twice a day 5 days pre-op and now I have an incision that's started to bleed. Exactly 1wk post-op I got the flu which I'm still trying to recover from. I was dehydrated with low BP at the doc this wk, so I was taken off my BP meds for the first time in 13yrs! But I've felt so sh!tty I haven't really been able to appreciate that yet. Anyway, I'm feeling terribly discouraged and completely unsure about my decision to have bypass. The whole process took over a year, so I had plenty of time to think and research and that's what I did. But now I'm totally regretting doing this to myself and I don't know if it's hormones that are making me psycho or if I'm just frustrated from being sick or if this is normal or if it's a combination of all of the above.

Either way, I'm stuck so I guess I have to deal but I just needed to vent. Thanks.

totally normal, if I had a nickle for everytime I heard this story, including myself, I would be rich LOL....don't fret, in about 4-6 weeks if not sooner, you will be over the moon....hormones, anesthesia, etc, will reek havoc on your emotions, it gets better every day... I was also on coumadin and lovonox, had a blood clot in my right leg and left lung and now have a greenfield filter...the wt loss also helps with this, so another bonus of WL, surgery....hang in there, and vent whenever you feel the need!!

Sunshyn, my name is Mary, & I can totally understand where you're conning from,a little background on me, I had my surgery on January 29 &it was a textbook surgery,my problems began when I got home, I have Chronic Rheumatoid Arthritis in every joint in my body (not an exaggeration) Fibromyalgia, & Thyroid disease, I was taking 15 pills 3 times a day, which I wouldn't be able to take because it would overkill my stomach. Anyway my Dr's & I figured it out but after surgery I went through withdrawals from some of the pain killers. Then I couldn't keep any food down, for the first 6weeks, the Dr wanted me to have an endoscopy , which thankfully I didn't have to get. I swore that I made the biggest mistake of my life but, I was 398lbs the day of surgery & now almost 1yr later I'm 254lbs! I still need to have my knees replaced, I still can't tolerate some foods, but I can go out, I can drive, I haven't missed a birthday party, I cooked Thanksgiving dinner (even if I couldn't eat much),most of all I have been able to be a grandmother to 2 granddaughters, what I'm basically saying in a long drawn out way I'd it is worth it, you'll look back a few months from now & say yo your self... you know I made the right decision, you did you have know idea how great life I'd going to become. I do sympathise with you right now is day 8 with the flu &bronchitis, I feel horrible & the flu is wrecking havoc with my RA, anyway anytime you want to talk or vent or need a shoulder to cry on I'm here for you, hang in there & I'll check in with you in a few days. Be well, Peace Mary

Vicki, I don't know you but I love you!! Lol. Thank you!! Sometimes validation of one's feelings makes all the difference in the world. I really appreciate the kind words, they mean a lot...especially from a fellow "clot sister" :)

Im so sorry to hear about the problems you've been having but almost every has the moment of regretting the surgery some time during the recovery time. I had PCOS very bad, diabetes, high bp and high everything else that they almost didn't do the surgery. My first night home I cried all night regretting my decision. My mother in law almost drove down to stay with me cause she was worried. Hubby was at work. I ended up really dehydrated, bad dizzy spells and wouldn't eat or drink. Took me till I was 6 weeks to get to the point I was happy I did it. Im a year out and I started at 319 and now I am at 210 and 24 weeks pregnant. You'll be feeling better soon!!! Keep your head up and you will soon know it was all worth it :)

I am only 2.5 weeks out.. I can't tell you the " what have I done" moments I had the first week without any real complications... I trusted the many post from this site that said it is normal and everyone goes through this. AND it does get better with each day! So many previous health issues already resolved with just 23 #s off.... Hang in there.. Try to be positive .. Attitudes are important! you did not make the wrong decision! (( HUGS )). Dyan from Ohio

I just joined the site today....& I must say you all are soooooo encouraging. I'm glad my surgeon referred me to this site!!!

My surgery is 1/2014. I am trying to decide whether to go with the Plication sleeve or the Vertical sleeve.

I am a nurse but I look forward to your input & advice for both pre-op & post op tips.

Please continue to be Angels to others.

Blessings,

I remember when I first had surgery and the pain I felt I was regretting everything and couldn't believe I did this and to myself...lol when I finally went home, I cried all the time. Making dinner for my family was hard because I was unable to eat, my hormones were everywhere but you know what it all passed. It is normal to feel this way, your hormones will get the best of you, but in the end and in a few weeks you will feel so much better....congrats on taking your life back. Take it day by day and good luck to you:)

I am a fellow clotter! I did the Lovenox 2

Weeks pre and 2 weeks post. It's not always easy after RNY but I hope u can get to where one day u can say the same thing I do...It's so worth it! Sometimes I think it takes awhile to get it all to fall into place. Having a illness that rough so shortly after RNY must have been hard. You are tough tho and made it and hopefully now everything is on the upward swing. Don't be hard on yourself. Take this time to take care of u and get your strength back. It takes awhile to recover and adding the illness in may just be a bit more challenging. I did about a week after go through a funk wondering why I did that to myself. I also had the tears and emotional episodes. I gotta say that taught me my new motto that I try to remember..."This too shall pass..." Hopefully u will see this happen soon and all will get better. Good luck! We are here for u anytime U need to talk and vent. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
