Anyone Else Think That They'll Be The One That Will Die?!?

Recommended Posts

After all my research I -- in the end -- could be comforted only with the realization that only the good die young.

and I ain't so good.

I wasnt that nervous until I saw the hospital through the windshield, then the thoughts started coming hard and heavy.

When it happens, remember why youre doing it. I always advocate writing a list and keeping it with you. Go over it. Then tell the nurse in pre-op that youre nervous and they'll give you a little liquid courage lol!

I felt the same way! I was sleeved last Tuesday and had tears in my eyes going in the operating room. I have a 5 year old son and the thought of possibly leaving him without a mother was overwhelming. But the same was true if I didn't get the surgery. You just need to stay positive! I wish you the best!

Sabredy12,

Thanks for this post.

I'm right there with you, I'm a single parent to a beautiful 20 month old girl and my surgery is scheduled for Dec 26th.

I'm terrified out of my mind... BUT, I know, just like having her, that this is the BEST thing for BOTH of us.

I made a list of all the reasons that I'm tired of being fat, and all of the reason I want to do this.. and on the top of both lists are my quality of life for myself... and my daughter.

Similar to labor and delivery, I just keep telling myself, everything will be ok.

We will be fine. We will not die.

We will be happy, successful at this, and will tell our story to future nervous pre-op folks. :)

Yes. Me. I'll be that one. Not so much as dying from the actual surgery but complications thereafter.

On the other hand, I keep convincing myself things will be ok because I've seen people who were a lot more unhealthy than me who have woken up from the table and are keeping on with life, losing weight, and doing great. Not to mention all the great success stories here on the boards. Also when you have people who depend on you, the instinct is to be a fighter and pull through anything as hard as it may get, so yeah I guess we shouldn't worry, we will be fine

I am on Thursday too and I can't even sleep or concentrate. I am so worried about my kids being motherless. I really hope this is worth it--I want to be a healthy fun mom.

I started a thread a couple of months ago called "Smooth Recovery, Anyone" after reading[ too many complication stories and needed some positive reinforcement. I got a ton of responses. You should check it out. I'm 2 weeks post op now and so far so good. I'm already back to working 12 hour night shifts (with my surgeon's approval).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
