Vacations....

Recommended Posts

totally unrelated to anything weight loss related (except that flying is the freaking bomb now that I don't feel like a stuffed sausage when I'm on a plane) but I'm looking for suggestions on vacation spots for my 9 year old son and I. We did the keys last summer (was the bomb!!) and I'm starting to plot for next summer. They can be historic/learning based or just for fun! Just not ridiculously expensive! Thanks in advance for your brilliance!!!

Does he like nature? The beach? My favorite place in the world is the Oregon coast. It doesn't get much prettier. Maybe not a childs cup of tea unless he likes the beach...and what kid doesn't?

Love Virginia and DC...you could do DC for awhile for the learning and then head to the ocean for some beach fun. Or Yellowstone...beautiful with lots of cool nature stuff to fascinate kids.

Savannah, GA is a nice place to visit- lots of history, city tours and Tybee Island beach is very close.

Williamsburg VA. At 9 he can spend a day or two actually being a colonial rebel (they have formal programs). We did it with our daughter and she had a ball...

I'm for Va as well. There is a ton of historical stuff to do Colonial Williamsburg etc but there is also Busch Gardens or Kings Dominion amusement parks and the beach as well as deep sea fishing!

I live in Oregon and have traveled to many places and I too agree that the beaches here are some of the most beautiful and peaceful I have seen, however, they are never warm. It's not warm here long enough to ever get the Water warm enough to play in so I'm not sure it would be the best beach or most fun for a kid. But the wax museum, sea lion caves, aquarium, and ripleys believe it or not are right on the beach and are so much fun!

California!! Beaches, Mountains, Lakes, Rivers, Dessert. My favorite place is Stinson Beach Ca! We have a beach house there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
