Weird Feet Dry Cracked Feet Problem

Recommended Posts

Right after surgery I noticed my skin was very dry, so I took the advice of others and started using coconut oil on my skin to relieve the dryness. Now my feet are cracking... I mean painful open cracks. I looked up symptoms of dehydration, and sure enough the problem I'm having with my feet was listed.

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, besides drinking more Water to cure the dehydration what did you do to heal the cracking. I am keeping my feet moisturized, but as soon as one crack heals, here comes another.

I'm not sleeved yet but I have this problem with my feet, too. What works for me is to constantly keep them moisturized. I put vaseline on them at night and wear socks.

I live in the high desert and this is a problem year round here- especially when wearing flip flops to do yard work around our chalky, water- leaching dust & soil..,

A product on "drugstore.com" called CRACK CREME (spray form) is the only thing that works for me... It starts to heal & close them up after 2 nights of dowsing my damp, just- showered feet & then quickly sealing/covering with socks (I also smear a little bit on my lower lip or finger tips if I get cracks there). Good luck - maybe this regime would work for you (I notice I get more of them when I've been at my heaviest, btw).

I started taking prim rose oil in gel form yesterday...I have been having a lot of trouble with my skin being dry and cracking.....it will take a week or so but it will be worth it if it works...I am taking 1000 mg a day so far

Might want to try that!

Wow! Did any of you develop the dry skin condition after surgery, or did it exist before surgery. I have one crack that is very bad. It's like an open wound. Going to see a doctor about it. It would be different if my feet were callused, but that is not the case... It's fleshy skin splitting. Sounds disgusting... I know!

RJ, I can only imagine the lower intake of fat, besides dehydration in my case, has a lot to do with increased dryness. My skin is so dry, I sometimes wonder if I should just oil down with lard. LOL The coconut oil helps though. Nice scent too. Now I smell fruity. LOL

Bag Balm and socks.

My husband does this. He has had trouble with heel cracks since before surgery. Two nights of this and the cracks are gone. I've tried other stuff but none of it worked as well as the bag balm. The key for him is to wear socks and shoes that keep his heels covered for the most part.

I take 1000 of evening primrose oil as well to keep my hair from falling out due to thyroid issues. I'm using coconut oil whipped with some essential oils for keeping my skin moisturized and I'm loving it.

Vaseline on feet at night time covered with socks moisturizes feet and helps keep feet from drying up. Be careful walking on tile or getting into rub, feet are super slipper.

RJ's and Gamegirl,

Where do you purchase your prim oil and gel from?? Do you drink it or rub it into skin?

RJ's is gel and Gamegirl is oil.

RJ's did I also see you post in another post about using what??? for the stitches scars? I was trying to look for it, I believe you said the one you are using worked better for you than what others used. What are you using for your scars??

I take prim rose in gel capsules. I take them a long with my Vitamins, twice a day...Seems to be working..My skin has already improved some on my hands.....

I use caster oil on my scars..It is the only product that sinks into the tissue and heals the inner scar and makes it softer...I also stretch and rub the scars gently which help to keep the hardness from forming....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
