I am currently 6 days out from surgery, on a clear liquid diet until tomorrow, then I am on full liquids. I am having a problem with my Protein Shake, it is giving me diarrhea, and also is very thick. I am watering it down, but it is way too much for me to drink in one setting. I have been researching the GNC Protein Shots, which have 42 grams a shot, I am required to do 60 grams a day at this point. I do not want to veer from his plan, and I want to find my Protein in a liquid form until my stomach is ready to transition. I want to know if anyone has tried them, or if they are a bad idea. Thank you!

Problem is most Protein Shots are Collegen based and our body does not process that as well as whey Protein. GNC carries Isopure drinks which are like Gatorade. Some hate them. I do not mind them at all. Also Syntrax Nectar is a decent fruit Protein Drink

My nut specified Protein isolates. There are lots of isolates, whey, pea, etc. She said we absorb much more of the protein in isolate form and more quickly than other kinds, which we need early on. Search the forum on protein and you'll find some good threads. Some people start using caseinates later on because it absorbs slower, good when you are able to exercise more and build muscle. Just my opinion, but isolates have worked well for me as a general Protein Shake. I also like a glass of warm milk at bedtime.

My NUT said at this point not to worry yet about getting all the Protein in,,,,just eat it first and get in as much as you can.

I'm on a regular diet and still having trouble getting all mine in. But I eat as much as I can and just go from there.

Thank you all for your words of wisdom. I did look into the shots, too good to be true. I ended up trying a different Protein Powder that's thinner. Much easier to get down. Thanks everyone!

Walmart carries whey Protein Shots. 42g and have different flavors. I use them. Just one a day. But they dont taste all that great but I can stomach them better than the Protein shakes!

Check the ingredients. They are likely not whey protein. They use the word whey in the name, but whey is not the main ingredient. They have a trace amount of whey. It's almost false advertising designed to fool you.

My nutritionist also told me that most people can't absorb more than 30g of Protein in one sitting. If someone is working out for hours daily, perhaps 40g. Just throwing that out there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
