Taphophile 16 Posted December 7, 2013 Good morning all. I'm now two weeks post surgery and I'm very pleasantly surprised at how smoothly things have gone so far. I'm a 56-year-old guy and I weighed 345 at surgery and at my ten day pos-op appointment I was at 325. Whoa! I have graduated to one Protein Shake a day and soft chicken, turkey, and fish. So far, so good. My biggest challenges so far have been forcing down enough liquid and Protein shakes. Oh, and although I'm not hungry at all, I REALLY want to go buy a box of fried chicken and scarf that stuff down. Old habits die hard I suppose. Based on my experience so far, I would wish this on anyone thinking about surgery. I had a lot of angst going into it based on all of the various stories that I read. Fortunately, my experience has been great. Keep on keeping on, folks! 4 Alex Brecher, Ms skinniness, ProudGrammy and 1 other reacted to this

Fortunately, my experience has been great. Keep on keeping on, folks! Welcome! And congratulations on your success so far! Ae far as the fried chicken goes... a little story. .. My 16 year old daughter just got a job at Popeyes (chicken joint) and my family went there last week to eat (and watch her work) lol... I have not had any food restrictions up to this point. Seems my sleeve can tolerate anything. I took two bites of chicken because I just wanted to taste it. 5 min later I had my first bout of vomiting. .. 3 times! I was 6 weeks out and never had any nausea until that night. Felt like crap for the whole next day too. Fried chicken? Not worth it!
Taphophile 16 Posted December 7, 2013 Mmmmmmmm... Popeyes! Number 1 in my book! I'm in Metro Atlanta, so I know them well. Maybe some day I'll have a piece, but I suppose the 3 piece is ancient history!

Maybe some day I'll have a piece, but I suppose the 3 piece is ancient history! Welcome to the losers bench..You are so right..3 pieces just may be too much for at least the first 6 - 8 months...after that well....if you return to your old habits..You can do it...please don't though...Seems to me that you are very serious about your new goals and life..... Most sleeves do not like oils or fats like deep frying anything...it is sad but true.... Once again congrats!
Ms skinniness 3,003 Posted December 7, 2013 Congrats on your smooth recovery. You will be able to eat about 2 small pieces later on but don't push it. Eat as much Protein as you can and take advantage of the first year to get as close to goal as possible. I'm 26 month po and am in maintenance. It's work to keep old habits from reoccurring but doable. 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
gmanbat 5,889 Posted December 7, 2013 (edited) Welcome! Density, moisture content, and acidity seem to be the main factors in acceptance by the sleevemaster below. Slower eating, avoiding drinking, and proper chewing enter into the equation as well. In time, you will differentiate at a glance a good food situation from a trip to the Land of Ouch. southernsoul 773 Posted December 7, 2013 Welcome! I'm in Athens, so we're almost neighbors. I feel ya on the fried chicken, too. I've had about 4-5 bites of that once since surgery & I was OK. I've also tried a bit of country fried steak & that was OK, too. Neither one will be a regular player in my diet anymore, but it was nice to know that I can do OK with it once in a while.
