I started really buckling down and losing weight about two months before surgery and I think it was a very important component to my loss so far. I lost 26lbs in those 2 months leading up, and once I had the surgery my body was ready to keep that progress moving in the right direction. Also, it included a lot of walking and whatever exercise I could do back then, and building up ones muscles now helps both hasten weight loss and lessen side effects or drawbacks from the surgery.

There is another person on this site who always preaches looking at weight loss as a job. It needs to be that serious. You clock in first thing in the morning and everything you do the whole day has to coincide with these goals. And then, once you start losing a bit, something fun happens, you start enjoying the losses so much that the chores of the "job" start becoming more fun or entertaining.

Welcome Mila.

So what's your story? Are you getting ready to have surgery or have you already done it? Although I post in the Portland thread, I'll be moving shortly to Walla Walla to go back to school. So this thread can be for anyone with any connection to Portland.

I had Dr Kim at Kaiser and I would highly recommend him. He did a fabulous job and I had zero complications.

Hi. I'm weighing in. ;) I came here about a year ago and life got in the way. I'm scheduled to go through the Kaiser classes in July. I wanted sooner but this is life. Thanks for posting and I hope yaall don't mind if I stalk you a bit. I have had Dr. Kim for another surgery (gallbladder) and that went very well too so if I have a choice, he's mine. I suspect I am a rny candidate? thanks. N

From what I understand dr. Kim is not working right now. Dr leger is the only doctor at kaiser right now. Met him the other day. Nice guy but very candid when he's talking to you. It was good though, I needed to hear when he had to say.

Yes. Dr Kim is on leave for a while. But he'll be back I hear. Dr Leger is known for his direct manner.

Surgeries are still being done on schedule now so that's good news for sure.

There are Kaiser support groups at SunnyBrook, Salem, salmon Creek and WestSide.

Well thank you all three for responding. and the update on Dr. Kim - it's been a year since my surgery with Dr. Kim (non wls). Here's to hoping he will be back by the time I'm at that stage. I'm close to Sunnybrook. Sadly I've had a several surgeries and my experience with surgeons is they are not always the most compassionate bunch, so thanks for the heads up. Hopefully Leger is technically good? Sad there are no choices.

Linedancer... are you going to be rny? and how long have you been through the process if you don't mind me asking?

I am pretty sure attending the support group at Sunnybrook is my "step 2" but maybe I can come before then. I'll check in. I am really wanting to do everything I can so that I get this right.

Impish my surgery is scheduled for June 12th. I am so excited. I will say one thing. You need to lose weight and not gain. I gained 2 pounds after a 15 pound loss and Leger wasn't happy with me. I do understand his concerns though so I'm working hard to lose before surgery. I started the process in novemver. I went right through the steps pretty quickly. I am an expert at losing weight, as I'm sure we all are, so I was able to put practices in place quickly.

It took me an entire year for surgery and that is with me pushing as fast as I could. The big wait was for a surgery date as I completed the program in October and had to wait until January 8 for the date. It was worth the wait and frankly, if you really work the program, it helps you to prepare. In the end, the first three months really sucked. After you lose the first 50, its all good.

Finally got through the steps and am meeting with Dr. Leger on June 10th for a 1 hour consult. Can anyone tell me what to expect? I'm hopeful he accepts my case and we schedule a surgery date soon.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
