How Much To Eat While Recouping From Tt.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, now that I am on the recuperative end of my Tummy Tuck I am trying to get an idea of how to eat till I can start exercising again. I'm drinking a lot of broth and lemon tea, but don't want to go too heavy on the meat end since I won't be burning many calories right away. I certainly don't want to come out of this weighing more than I did going in! How did all of you handle it?

Ann

Honestly, I just stayed in my normal daily calorie range, 1000-1200 calories a day. I still lost weight while healing, too.

Staying away from meat is actually a bad idea because when healing from major surgery, you need that Protein more than ever. Most doctors actually want you to increase Protein for healing.

Just track your calories and get lots of protein and you'll be fine :)

If you want to heal you need to eat Protein. You are setting yourself up for a nice infection if you don't put nourishment in your body. Eat it wont hurt you.

My concern is that I know how much to eat given regular activity. If I were to eat the same amount while lying around I'm sure I'll stretch my pouch and start gaining. Boredom has always been my enemy so I'm trying to be proactive and plan ahead. I'm sure as I feel better and start doing more things (knitting) it won't be as big an issue.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
