Hello all,

I am on Day 3 of my preop. diet and overall, I am doing well. I am measuring my 3 oz. of meat, drinking my Protein Shakes, loading up on green vegetables, but I think I had forgotten how often I think about food. Every break, every evening, whenever I am tired or bored, and as a means to de-stress and self-soothe, I would eat. Last night I caved and ate a deli-slice of provolone cheese and 3 (Count 'em) potato chips. (Total slider food. Could've killed my husband for bringing them home.) The cave was due to the simple fact that I needed to go to bed. So I guess it's good how aware I am of Why I tend to overeat, and WHY I still want to. Without the sleeve, I will always return to my old ways.

I have found that chomping on a giant cucumber with a teensy bit of salt is pretty satisfying when I feel I need to eat something. I plan on buying some sugar-free Jello and popsicles today. What else is good and calorie free?

Could use some words of encouragement!

Thanks,

Amy

I am on day 3 of my pre-op too! Seeing already that all by bad habits happen at night time too. Once I am done with the day (which is after 9pm each night) I snack and drink wine! No wonder I need to lose 100 pounds! I am focusing on the healthier me to come, trying to read and stay busy later to keep my HEAD from telling me to eat. I bought some Turkey Pepperoni that only has 70 calories per serving and 10 grams of Protein which is the most helpful thing for me right now. Good Luck to you! Let's stay in touch. We are on the same day for surgery it sounds like!

First of all, I think it's great you understand what triggers you to eat and you are working on that behavior. I also discovered on my pre op diet how much I would eat when I was bored, sad, happy, angry, you name it. I was so frustrated with myself, it's like I didn't know how to deal deal with it if I couldn't eat. I'm a few days post op and I am dealing with head hunger, especially last night and today. You will get through this, and you will know so many things about yourself. I think it's wonderful you are finding things you can snack on that won't derail your end goal. You can do this, I believe in you!!!!!!!!!!

I'm on day six with liquid Protein, sugar free Jello, broth and leafy greens. I seemed to turn a corner yesterday with the hunger and general feeling of light headedness, it went away. I missed one of my Protein shakes this morning and didn't realize it until lunch. I'm rapidly losing interest in these shakes and am starting to think I need to find an alternative (in case I get to a point where I can't drink one) for post op. I've noticed my gag reflex seems sensitive too - I can't swallow my Vitamins sometimes. Anyone else notice this?

Instant Miso Soup has been a lifesaver, the salty is a good contrast from the sweet.

I'm also day 3 pre-op! Surgery is scheduled for Wed Dec 11 (I think I said the 13th on another forum here but I was confused what date Wednesday was, lol!) - I'll blame that on the hunger pains and light headedness.

I also am not allowed to eat anything solid (or solid pureed, i tried, lol!) and it's so hard! Today was better than the 1st day though. I said screw it and had a salad with olive oil & balsamic vinegar for dinner because it's so hard for me to cook and smell the food that I'm cooking and see it and just watch the kids and my hubs eat it.

I've also had pretty severe headaches on day 1 and day 2, but that luckily seems to have subsided. I've been adding onion powder to my beef broth so it tastes like french onion Soup, that's helped and I'm not focusing on calories. I figure if I'm starving myself and only eating liquids I'll drink as much as I want of them. Luckily that's only been about 3-4 a day so far (Atkins). Well, good luck to everyone! I'll keep you guys posted!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
