k95 3 Posted December 6, 2013 I've definitely hit the lowest I've EVER felt in my life and I feel so lost on how to fix it... I had my VSG surgery done July, 12th, 2013, which makes me close to 5 months post op. Within my first week of surgery I lost 15 lbs, but ever since then my weight basically has not shifted which...I cannot even describe how that is making me feel. Over the months I occasionally lost a couple lbs, gained some back, but nothing significant like what should be occurring. I'm constantly told don't worry you've just hit a plateau, you'll start dropping rapidly again soon" and I'm honestly so sick of getting my hopes up. As grateful as I am for my sleeve, I also at times feel what was the point of it if nothing is changing.... I've heard about plateaus and I'm aware that they are common for weight loss surgery's but to be honest, I've yet to hear a story about a plateau this long, I am so frightened. Sydney Susan 333 Posted December 6, 2013 (edited) Get your thyroid checked - I lost 20+ kg in two months and then stopped dead - took me three months to get around to a thyroid function test - I have Hashimoto's - and sure enough it was "stuffed". What a stupid waste of time that was - if you are sure you are eating 800 cal or less, get your doc to run some tests. k95 3 Posted December 6, 2013 Thank you very much for replying & I will definitely get that checked out as I do have a family history of Thyroid issues. If you don't mind me asking, how were you treated for Hashimoto's?
BrownDoesAll 409 Posted December 6, 2013 Have u been back to surgeon and nut? If not get back there they should have advise. If u have been back and they have not helped get to a different wl Center. I would agree that long of a stall is not acceptable for initial surgery loss. I assume u are following the plan. Protien first low carbs not drinking during meals. Portion size no chips candy sweets etc?
Sydney Susan 333 Posted December 6, 2013 Thank you very much for replying & I will definitely get that checked out as I do have a family history of Thyroid issues. If you don't mind me asking, how were you treated for Hashimoto's? I take thyroxine - synthetic thyroid hormone - you might know it as synthroid, I think. Thyroid is easy to treat - as in, just a tablet - but it can be hard to get it "just right". The most important thing to remember is that the "reference range" applies to the population - no individual can move across the full ref range and feel good. As an example, the ref range for T4 in Australia is 11 to 20 (most labs). At 11 I am technically normal but feel awful. At 19 I am still technically normal but have severe heart palpitations. After having this condition for the whole 30 plus years of my adult life, i know I feel best around 15/16. Doctors often just "go by the numbers", to which you need to challenge fiercely to get what you need! Good luck.
CowgirlJane 14,260 Posted December 6, 2013 What you describe is not a stall or plateau. Get thyself tested and follow up with surgeon AND nutritionalist. Good luck getting to the bottom of this. 1 Arts137 reacted to this
2Big2Skate 328 Posted December 6, 2013 Has your surgeons team been tracking your weight post op? They should definitely shown concern by now and initiated deeper testing. Get in their office and dont leave till your satisfied!
Chellemetime 299 Posted December 6, 2013 I agree with the others. That long without a loss isn't normal and you definitely need to see your surgeon for some tests. Good luck!

Do you track what you're eating in MyFitnessPal? If so, we can take a look and see if we can figure out what's going on. How much Water are you drinking a day? How much exercise are you getting? What is your current weight and height? I also agree with getting your thyroid tested. Also, get your Vitamin D, Iron, and B12 levels checked. If you have a thyroid problem, I recommend reading the book "Stop the Thyroid Madness". 1 Scorpion11 reacted to this
