What Does It Feel Like?

Recommended Posts

After surgery, I felt a lot of gasand was tender to the site of my port. I once proped a box on my stomach(like we all probably did back before lpbnd) and thought I would pass out! But after healing, and being 4 years out, the only thing I feel is as B-52 stated the golfball size bump where my port is. It sticks out when I get chilly, in the pool, but who cares! It gives me comfort!!Best wishes, Karen

These are all such brilliant answers, thank you for taking the time to write these. It gives me much better clarity as to what to expect once it's all done. Can't wait to get the confirmation of my surgery date, I still can't quite believe this is going to happen!

Im 15 days post OP I had quite a bit of pain in that first week I used my pain meds and walked alot. I could feel the band in my back because they stitch your stomach around it. I felt that. Also I get random hiccups that were extremely painful but that is fading as I heal. Some of the incisions still hurt a little as I sometimes bump them into my desk. I can feel my port when I press a little but it doesn't hurt anymore it's funny with the incisions came alot of bruising around the sites but that was just me everyone is diff. I did see my surgeon a couple of days ago and he said im healing very well and im feeling better every new day. Everyone is different and heals differently some faster than others. I know for me I'd do again in a heartbeat. Good luck to you.

I can remember thinking before my op, I wonder what it feels like? and feeling a bit worried about something placed inside me. However, its really odd but you forget you even have a band sometimes, just not aware of it being there at all !

I can only feel my port when I feel for it, but that may change when I get near to my goal weight, but it doesn't hurt.

Believe me when I say it is the best thing I have ever done and I would definitely go through it again. Any discomfort you feel for the first few weeks when you start to lose weight is worth it.

Good luck on your journey :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
