I have been banded coming up on 3 years soon...I have been at my optimal weight and body fat% for some time now....there is nothing left for me to loose without it being unhealthy...

My eating is totally under control, i eat very healthy now, small portions, and no need to count calories or call it a diet anymore....it is all very day to day, common existence with no thought about it anymore.....very simple and effortless!

I am also approaching the age of 65....at which point I will more than likely loose my excellent insurance...

(we all will with Obamacare anyway)

I am going to have a sit down with my Dr.and talk about the "What's Next"....do I keep the band forever?

Do I get it removed and continue this new lifestyle, new habits I have acquired?

OR do I switch it out for something like the sleeve with less maintenance and less possibility for long term complications.....

I don't know where to go from here...., but I am interested in finding out......

i say do what works for you

but let me also say that unless a person changes what they eat *excess calories/eating more then they can burn off*, then no WLS will work....each WLS is a great added (tool)...(aid)....or as i see it (my lapband/plication), a last chance life saver...i intend to have my band til whenever, as my health is never ending no matter when i get to my goal.

You may just want to ask that question on the sleeve site. I'm sure there are individuals posting who have converted. Best wishes

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
