My Fannie Pack

Recommended Posts

Ok so I am pre op and hopefully having surgery in January if the insurance gods allow. But my worry is, if everything is going well and I am losing weight in which I hope to. How well does the fannie pack go away. I understand that everyone is different and some major changes/hard work is going to happen. But I don't think I would be able to get that taken care of if the amount of skin is still there. Sorry If this is kinda random im on lunch and watching steve wilkos.

The question of extra skin is a difficult one to answer as there are many things that play into what happens after major weight loss:

How obese the they

How long have they been obese

Age

Skin elasticity

Smoker?

How many pregnancies? Twins?

This is not a complete list by any means. Creams are not going to shrink the skin and exercise will tone and build the underlying muscle, which can reduce excess skin, but without medical intervention, there is no way to completely avoid it.

For me, I would rather have the excess skin and be in a size 32 jeans than not have excess skin in 42s ... know what I mean? It really isn't that bad, for me. I started at a 40 BMI and am now below 25.

i hope this helps. think of this procedure, FOR YOUR HEALTH! not beauty. every time you see something sagging bagging and dragging, you are hear to looks at it. there ate many people dead in cemetery's who died from obesity. and you won't be one of them. let that be enough.

I completely understand....this is not cosmetic for me. I am about a 55 - 60 BMI. It is totally health realitated why I am planning on getting this done. But my concern was I am already getting sever heat rashes under the fannie pack against my legs and neather reagoin. That is why I was asking if it would shrink at all. I know it will be lighter than it is now but still. I am just hoping that everything goes fine and it is less painful than it is now.

Many times insurance will cover the removal of that skin if it's causing rashes, pain, etc.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
