Malnutrition/ To Thin

Recommended Posts

I wrote this in another area also but not getting a lot of feed back. Has anyone had a hard time maintaining there weight? Has anyone had the stomach spasms that I have read about? How bad are they and how long do they last? I only have 50-60 lbs to lose. How does the restriction feel? Is it hard to eat or just reminds you that you are full? I am really nervous. Surgery in two weeks.

Why are you having WLS if you only need to lose 50-60 lbs? Most Dr.'s require a BMI of 40 or higher, unless you are having some obesity related co-morbidies. I haven't heard of anyone having difficulty with losing too much weight. Most people struggle with regain eventually. Also haven't heard of stomach spasms from anyone. There are many possible complications with WLS so it's not something to be entered into lightly (pardon the pun).

Pretty serious restriction... I didn't even know that they would do wls for only 50lbs...

I have high cholesterol. My goal weight is 145lbs. I am at 199 now. My doctor said it would be the right surgery for me. I would have great results. I am a nurse and teach about good health with my patients but I'm not healthy myself. I have tried diets but never do well. I eat mostly healthy but binge when I'm hormonal. I need restriction.

I am inly 6 weeks out but I understand you can increase your caloric intake with time. The restriction is honestly wonderful. The pain of post op is minimal for most of us. It was actually so much easier than I thought it would be. And although you will get sick of hearing it the only things that help in the beginning are Protein Water and walking. . Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
