Any January Surgery Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

I will tell you all I started thinking about lap band in November of 2012. Had all the mtgs, was ready to schedule surgery & then backed out. I tried weight watchers & to do it on my own, but unfortunately it didn't work. I could progressively see my body getting more & more unhealthy. I made the decision in November of 2013 to start the process again & got banded on the 13th of January. The thing is nothing else worked for me. I weighed the options & this is my last resort. You have to look at your options & past to determine if WLS is rt for you. You know you the best. Research research research is my other recommendation!

Good luck to you. You will make the decision best for you :)

GREAT ADVISE!!! That is EXACTLY what I did!! Research, Research, Research!!! WLS was a last resort for me. I had lost a ton of weight....20 years ago...and gained it all back and then some...after many fad diets and Weight Watchers. WEIGHT WATCHERS works!! But you you HAVE to stick with it!! I couldn't do it any more...So now I do not have a choice and I HAVE to be good or get sick or have MAJOR problems!! This WLS has now basically FORCED my hand at doing what I should have done a long time ago!!!

--A toast to the New Year and the New Me...Here is to making an INFORMED, EDUCATED DECISION to prolong my life!!!! WOOT WOOT!!! I got this!!!!

I am glad to hear you are doing well. My surgery is January 27. I have heard from some that there is a tightness or discomfort in the stomach. Is that the case for you?

This post is NOT to scare anyone. I just want to put this out there, so if anybody else goes through what I have, they have a similar war story to hear.

You know how they tell you that you "may have some pain" in your left shoulder from the gas? Oh my goodness gracious almighty. It can be so intense you feel like your shoulder/neck is about to combust. My 1st day back to work, I was crying by the time I got home. (5 days post op) Day 2 at work I was crying by lunch and actually called my doctor to make sure there wasn't something worse going on. They told me the pain can be so intense that some people think they're having a heart attack.

My main reason for posting this, is that I've found a fool proof way to get quick relief. Walk walk walk. BUT to get the pain to go away quickly, take a couple gas x strips and lay flat on a bench, the floor, the bed, whatever. Then elevate your legs above your head. Use the wall, pillows, whatever. 5-10 minutes and the god almighty awful pain will subside for a while.

They say it will go away soon. This is the only thing I've found it hard to bounce back from. I actually qualified (I'm a police officer) with my gun at work today (7 days post op) and did fine with the incisions. Just that darn shoulder pain.

Good luck!

Oh know Orange! I have to sympathise with you the gas pain in my shoulder still hasn't quite gone for me either and I am 12 days out. It only appears again late in an evening just before bed, or after my evening meal. Like you, I have to go lie down, although by then I usually just go to bed! Love my bed! Have been using hot Water bottles continuously on my shoulder to help and also got a shoulder, neck and head massage with high-pressure, my god it felt good afterwards. Can def recommend that!

Weighed myself again this morning and am now 7kg/1st down on pre-surgery weight. its nuts. Another kg off and i will be in onederland yay!

Have a great day everyone, it's our christmas party tonight so I have the buffet table to navigate and the no drinking thing, but will get round it! Could be a cranberry juice night so everyone thinks I am on vodka cranberrys.

DP xx

How fast are you eating and drinking your meals?

I'm actually still mostly on thin liquid since I've had so much trouble. So slowly over about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes, thickest thing I'm eating is Tomato Soup

I was banded yesterday and haven't felt any pain. I didn't even take Tylenol and I slept very well. Do you think I will be ok or will I start feeling pain out of no where?

Everyone is different. I found day 2-3 to be the worst as far as incisions/moving around, after the hospital meds wore off, but I know some people have very little pain.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
