January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

Recommended Posts

Sorry for late reply. Had surgery 1/13/14 Monday. Was drowsy and Painfree all day. Slept day away.

Yesterday - was horrible. Felt like death. Iv infiltrated. Was dehydrated and became a hard stick. Didn't have iv for hours. No meds! No Pain or nausea meds. Was vomiting bile and mucous continuously. Also hurt abdomen by vomiting. Couldn't keep down ice chips. Finally got 2 ivs by anesthesiologist after several ppl tried - got scopolamine patch and Toradol and zofran etc, felt like 200% better 2 hours later. Had visitors and was even walking by evening. Even could handle ice chips! Totally an isolated incident.

Today cream of wheat and juice. Burping a lot. Probably full after a few spoon Fulls? Have a headache though. Hopefully discharged later. :-)

So glad your feeling better...at least your medical team was able to get it under control quickly so you didn't have to suffer too long. After first try and no success with IV they should have called in the PICC team, but as long as they got you hydrated and medicated thats all that matters! Best Wishes for a speedy recovery!

Hello everyone!! I myself am a January Sleever.....my surgery date is set for Tuesday the 28th with Dr. Andrew Wu in Manchester, NH at Catholic Medical Center. I began my journey in Sept with my first appointment and now I am here, I could not be MORE excited. I am lucky enough to not have any co morbidities so I was able to move through the process relatively quickly (and for that I am very thankful). I am currently on the 'liver shrinking' restriction diet and I am STARVING!! Each day has gotten a little easier, so I am hopeful that I continue down that path.

What has been really interesting to me is all the varying programs for the sleeve and what I mean by that is the programs. The length of time it takes to qualify for the surgery, different pre-op (and ultimately post op too) diets, length of hospital stays etc. In the past week I have been doing an excessive amount of research through the eyes of people who have both had and wish to have the surgery, watching YouTube videos (VLOGS), reading forums here and on Facebook. All great resources!!

I am beyond excited and ready to have the surgery, not nervous at all -not sure if that makes me crazy, I am just ready to get this ON! Good luck to everyone else here on their journeys, I look forward to walking this path together.

Much love,

Heather

Glad your feeling better thats rough having those issues right after surgery. Last thing anyone wants to do is get sick to your stomach after having stomach surgery!

Today starts 5 days out! What a difference a few days make! Once the IV was removed the nausea subsided - thank goodness! Been sipping on Water, sugar free juice and coconut water for last couple days. Everything tastes so good. food smells amazing but have no desire to actually eat anything, so strange. Looking forward to these drains coming out tomorrow, they are so cumbersome and uncomfortable.

Good luck to all those pre-op, keep it up to all those post. Most important thing I've learned so far is to stay positive ????

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
