Did You Find Yourself Emotional Before Surgery?

Recommended Posts

"No one can prepare you for how hard the first 6 weeks is." Now I'm really scared!

It might be, and it might not be.

For me, I would say it shook out like this:

The first few days was getting over the surgery itself and figuring out how to get anything down. Deciding which liquids worked, and becoming more comfortable with incisions, sleeping, etc.

Week one to week four was the tedium of navigating clear and full liquids; wanting more than that but being too freaked out to try it. This is where the emotions kicked in for me. I was a total cranky biznatch during week 2, and many others have alluded to the fact that this has to do with hormones being released, etc. But the good part: I figured out how to drink and sleep again. Then there was the stall at 3 weeks, not fun.

Weeks four to six have been the smoothest. Not only do I have more options food-wise, but the weight loss has kicked up again a bit. I am feeling more confident, and having had to travel over Thanksgiving and go to a couple of holiday parties I am seeing how I do outside of my little bubble…and it's working. Then too, I'm starting to be able to wear my smaller clothes and getting some superficial benefit from the surgery, which feeds the overall confidence that I can do it. And it's fun!

So yes and no…it's getting used to a new lifestyle but if your recovery is smooth (as mine was) it's not the kind of hard you will be expecting. Go in expecting the best, or at least not worrying about what the worst might be.

About a week before surgery a good friend told me I was blade running (running on an edge of a blade - slightest misstep and you get cut). I found that I got irritated with people pretty quickly. My surgeon mentioned I seemed crazy calm. It was a strange emotional state. I am accustom to the crazy calm feeling when I am in high stress situations. It was after surgery that I got emotional. I think it was everything finally getting caught up with me. It passes. I use essential oils to help balance out my moods, along seeing a therapist regularly. Figure out what works for you and take it a day at a time. Everything comes together in the end.

I will be starting my pre op diet soon with surgery scheduled for the end of Jan. since the post op diet will consist of purée foods can someone give advice on maybe purchasing one of those high speed blenders to purée the food .they are expensive and would hate to purchase something that's not needed. thanks!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
