Head Hunger Is In Full Effect

Recommended Posts

I know the feeling of "head hunger" well. I'm 7 weeks post and my tummy is full of the Protein shake I'm drinking but the leftover cake in the breakroom is calling my name.

Yes, they call us all. This trick is not to answer...

I think 'head hunger' for me, is not about being hungry, per se..

It's more about wanting the sensation and flavour of cake/crumpets/toast and cheese in my mouth...

Consequently, I felt emotional pain always denying myself those things.. So i tried them. Invariably, they didn't sit well, so now I'd rather not have the pain/discomfort and avoid them!

I know this is something I'll have to watch when the restriction slackens a bit.. But for now, not being able to eat them, is my saving grace

:)

Lol I was asking the other person. It sounds like he or she is on the wrong forum and is speaking about RNY (bypass) surgery :)

You are still on full liquids?
Most of us felt exactly the same way when on just liquids.
When liquids hit the sleeved stomach they tend to empty out pretty fast. Your restriction will come into play later when you start eating purée then soft and so on. Oh and yes you will feel fullness. But perhaps not on the first weeks because your stomach is still numb that is why it's very important to measure you food.

Excellent advice. . I thought I was gonna starve to death post op! Lol... now I'm just never sure if I'm hungry, thirsty, full or just plain crazy. I'm leaning toward the last one.

I'm grateful for all the posts people have been making about this head hunger issue. It truly caught me off guard. I'm also glad to be in such good company because I also thought there was something wrong with me... Today is a new day and more Protein Powder and Water it is!!!

I remember having the sensation of wanting to chew. Once I was on purees, this was somewhat relieved. The first month was tough as I moved through the eating phases. I agree with going slow on the eggs. Eggs are the densest Protein and can hit the new sleeve harder than you might expect. I did not tolerate them very well at first.

I think more than anything, I just want to get to a point where I don't have to think about what I'm supposed to eat or how much... I just do it and all the obsession gossip away!!! It's a struggle every day right now fighting what I think is hunger, what to eat that I'm not long since bored of... Getting enough of this or that... Mid January can't get here soon enough... My sweet husband is so patient with me... I can't thank him enough for his support and following my diet along side me still... I'd have gone crazy by now... Well... CrazIER...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A. Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
