Follow A Sleever From Night Before Surgery All They Way Through Recovery

Recommended Posts

LuminousLife,

Thank you for posting your experience post-op, I am scheduled to be sleeved on Dec. 17th. Some days the thoughts terrifies me and other days I am relieved to be taking this new journey in my life. The fear if keeping this weight should be greater than losing it!!! My biggest fear is the unknown, not having control of what happens once they will me into that OR. I pray that you continue to have a speedy recovery.

That was my biggest fear too. Turns out the actual surgery is the easy part. The recovery is hard. For me anyway. I'm struggling getting in my h20. You will do well I'm sure. As long as you have done your research and found a good surgeon, follow ALL pre op and post op rules you will be OK. I am anxious to see what the next few months brings. Best of luck and keep me posted! :)
Thank you, I definitely will keep you posted, as I will be following your progress.

Day 9: No change on the scale today. Not an issue for me, just keeping you in the loop. I have always weighed myself daily, creature of habit. Anyway I had a pretty bad night/morning. All of a sudden at 3am I was awoken by a really sharp pain in my lower abdomen, followed by diarrhea (sorry to put it so bluntly). This continued for 6 hours and it was excruciating. My surgeon said that "you seem to call us every time something feels painful or unusual to you (well duh! Its my body), some discomfort is to be expected". So I did not call him about it. I have had on and off pain all day and I am convinced it is dehydration. I still only get 1 bottle of Water and 1 Protein Shake in a day. I am striving for more H2O. So tonight I sit and I sip. I cannot handle that kind of pain again :/

I was fairly drugged up when they did it but it wasn't hard. They did it on the 2nd day at the hospital. It was a tiny sip and it wasn't barium it was a clearish soapy substance. Tiny sip then they let me rinse and spit.

Thank god... When I had the band they made me drink n drink n drink this chalky stuff

Happy to say I slept through the night! Thank you lord! I have no as of pain now. I also was able to get in more Water yesterday. I skipped the Protein Shake and stayed up until midnight sipping. Prior to the other night, I hadn't had gas pains since day 4/5 so it took me by surprise.

Day 10, pretty good day. The only pain I have today is incision pain. I had my first experience eating out. It was my company Christmas party. I have to admit it was tough to see all that delish food being passed around. But that is why I did this. I would have eaten and eaten and eaten. I ordered tea and a nice bisque. I had a few spoonfuls and savored them.

Day 11: A good pain free day (aside from that large incision site). I have 3 days until I move onto the next phase and I am more than ready. I have never been so excited to eat an egg! No weight loss in the last 3 days. I know it will come when I can get some more food in and move more comfortably to do some exercise.

I think 3 weeks is just right! I tried to treat my time off like a vacation. I had my nails done, bought mini spa Shampoo, and a new pair of PJ's. My husband thought I was nuts but hey, I say make the most out of it. The procedure itself was the easy part. I'd ask your doc form something for your anxiety the night before if you get real anxious. No reason for you to suffer. Sending my prayers your way! xx

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
