Just curious as I'm getting my sleeve done next Thursday. Why would it sting :( surely they do nothing to ur esphogus??

Well I think its because you can't drink anything, including Water for a whole day. So by the time do drink it may sting because its letting the moisture back in. I can feel the water move into my tummy and exit the tummy and that hursts some even with pain killers. The doc and nurses all say its normal and j will improve day by day. I think so pain is worth it.

My throat hurt from the breathing tube. Ice was relieving and stinging at same time.

Another observation. I am hungry

I also had my sleeve done yesterday, and when I woke, I too thought I was hungry. I ordered broth and tea once I got to the floor, and in reality, I don't think I was hungry. I think I mistook my swollen, irritated stomach as a hunger sensation. Over a couple of hours, I did eat the broth and drank the tea without issue. Then today, I've had some puréed/strained Soup in addition to broth, but I still don't think I've experienced true hunger. Nurse told me to start omeprazole when I got home, so maybe the "hunger" feeling is really just the overproduction of acid we've all heard about on these boards?

Hang in there, Luminous!

Actually, they pass the bougie through your esophagus. And some docs do a "flat tire" leak test during surgery where they inflate your stomach with air (through your esophagus) to look for bubbles. And some docs will also do an endoscope during surgery to visualize the inside of your staple line.

Entering night # 2 on the hospital. I've managed to keep my Fluid quota of 30 ml hour with no problems. Pain meds aren't working at all. All of my pain is located in the bottom right quadrant of my abdomin. They did a bladder ultrasound and determined it to be full and causing some pain. They believe kidney stone is the culprit. I will check back in tomorrow morning. Feel free to fire off any questions. Night Night

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
