Anyone in Eastern PA?

Recommended Posts

I currently live in Lancaster County (born and raised in Pittsburgh though) and I am looking into getting a Lap-band. Tomorrow is my seminar at Hershey Med. Center. I am excited to see what they have to say.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else out there is from my area!

Hi! I'm Kelly from the Lebanon area, also going to the Hershey Med. Center-- This is very new to me, I went to the informational meeting with my husband on Feb. 6, I had my initial visit with Melanie Lowery 3/1, now trying to schedule Psych., need to go for EKG on 3/21. First monthly meeting isn't until 4/17 at the Middletown Office.

Since you went to the seminar today, you probably found out that they don't say much about the lapband, let me know what you think. My husband did a lot of research and the lapband seems to be the way to go, and that's why I'm here--to learn all I can before I make the final decision. :nervous

I thought they only did the gastric bypass in Hershey. That's why I went to Harrisburg to the Weight Loss Clinic and Community General Hospital. It was a small hospital, but they've been great. Just a thought....

Hi. I am in the Lebanon/Cornwall area. I just made my first appointment at the Weight Loss Clinic in Harrisburg. This is just for them to go over my insurance information, and they said they have a questionaire I have to bring home and fill out, then they will make an appointment to see one of the doctors' to go over my options. I know they also do the bypass surgery there, but I have pretty much decided to have the lap band surgery done-if they will allow me to. Dixie-if you could let me know what the office requires, I would appreciate it. This is all so new to me....

I am attending a seminar hosted by the Reading Hospital next week (it is actually taking place at the Eden Resort in Lancaster). I am from Myerstown, Pa just east of Lebanon. I was thinking about also attending a seminar from the hershey med-center. Is shopping around a good thing, or will I go into information overload?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
