Ok, family I am 3 months and 3 day post-op and I feel really good about the surgery. But here is where my problem is lying right now. I have acid reflux and I am taking Omeprazole and have been taking it since I got home from the hospital in August. I have talked to the nurse and she keeps telling me to keep an eye on what I eat but everything gives me acid reflux from waking up, Water, citrus, seasons, to everything. I would have to stop eating everything to find out what is causing it but it seems like it is everything so I just dont know what to do. I have been in search of a natural remedy so I dont have to worry with these pills and stop spending so much money for them. It can really get bad sometimes and others not so much but I am really getting tired of it. Does anyone have any idea what I can do that will help with this situation.

Unfortunately, many of us have found that it is just something we are going to have deal with for the rest of our lives. At over four years out, if I miss just one day of my Prilosec, I am absolutely miserable. I am curious to see if you get any other responses on a better, and definitely less expensive, way to deal with reflux.

This, is a tough one.

I had/have the same problem. I, too, am on omeprazole....

I stopped drinking anything other than Water three hours before sleep (same with eating). Drank vinegar, spoonfuls of honey, elevated my pillow by 8 inches at night. Never let myself get too empty, never ate chocolate (it is a trigger for me)... You name it, I've tried it.

I hate to say it, but you might have to consider the true elimination diet... and keep things exceptionally plain...

I'm sorry you're suffering so badly. It truly is an awful thing to have x

Mocha, I haven't had my sleeve yet but I've suffered from reflux for years and I take Omeprazole daily. Stop the citrus as it is generally a culprit for everyone. A bland diet is the safest road to take if you don't want to do the medication. I wish you lots of luck.

I also suffer with the reflux monster - I have to take a pill in the morning and one at night and supplement with tums! The blander I eat, the better it is ... You'd think I'd learn, LOL!

I had terrible GERD over the last 10 years that had severely damaged my stomach, so I was no stranger to the acid reflux. I will say that mine was the very worst 1-3 months out, and it has improved over the last several weeks.

My bariatric internist recommends 1 Pepcid Max in the a.m., 1 Prilosec before dinner, and 2 Pepcid Max at bedtime. This really works for me (in all the time before surgery, I'd always been on Prilosec or Prevacid, but the mix works for me).

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
