This Is Pathetic, But I Really Need Some Encouragement

Recommended Posts

I know this is politically explosive, but have you checked out the Obamacare website? If you sign up now, the insurance starts in January. You may even be eligible for a subsidy.

Sometimes depending on your policy coverage and state you have something called med pay which pays for bills related to injuries as a result of a car accident. It does not cause your premiums to increase. It is worth checking out on your auto insurance card or your agent.

Contact the pharmaceutical company directly - I know they help out individuals when asked (especially for a defined period like you have).

Hi,

So glad there seems to be light on the Horizon! Hugs to you and your daughter. Everyone had such great suggestions but I want to add just two more for anyone else who may read this thread also looking for help. Needymeds is another great website that has all brand, generic assistance programs and med coupons all in one place. Also, some states have assistance programs to help families in financial need pay for cobra for a period of time. Wishing you the best!

You are not pathetic. Your situation is not pathetic. What is pathetic is that a system can exist in the western world that sees what I consider to be such a basic fundamental human right as access to medical care being denied to those who need it. A society is measured on how it responds to those most in need and I am so saddened to hear stories such as yours. But it is your society, your systems that I see as pathetic. Not you.

I am so very, very pleased that you have found an avenue for support and wish you all the best.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
