Hello,

I am very upset and anxious and I was hoping someone would be able to provide me with some personal experience and information. I had an Upper GI Series done back in September and found out my esophagus was dilated. At that point, all my Fluid was removed from the band and I was told to have another Upper GI Series done in 3 months and we would take it from there. I am scheduled for that Upper GI Series very soon and I am hoping that the problem has corrected itself. First and foremost, I do not want my esophagus to be damaged. Secondly, I do not want to have to have my band removed. I have already gained quite a bit of weight back over these past few months and was really hoping to be able to start getting fills again. Has anyone come across this problem that can let me know what their outcome was?

Thanks!

Esophageal dilation occurs when the portion of the stomach above the band is essentially stretched. The best way to avoid esophageal dilation (and correct it) is to not over eat, not allow your band be too tight, and stick to band sized portions.

If your band hasn't slipped, you're not over eating and are sticking to band sized portions, the chances are very good the esophageal dilation will correct itself. Granted I'm no doctor but it seems when caught early and treated accordingly it's usually reversible.

Best wishes.
