Help? Post Ops

Recommended Posts

My surgery is creeping up and I needed to stock my house with what I can drink/eat after coming home. I know sugar free Popsicles but what else?

I was allowed Isopure Protein drink--dilluted with 50% Water (it's clear....you can get it at GNC).......only buy a few bottles......I did not like it one bit.......some like it.....but I had to get my Protein in somehow.

Be careful with all the sugar free products -- can cause diarhea

I have one of those snow cones/ice shaving machines.....and bought a bottle of DaVinci sugar free syrup.......and had a very small "snow cone" when I was desperate to chew something.

Don't stock up on too much (don't want to get stuck with stuff you don't like as tastes change post op)

If you haven't yet, you might want to buy samples of protein powders assuming you'll be following up the clear stage with a full liquids stage.....Syntrax, Click (they make a nice Decaf mocha double shot expresso), unjury......not sure what other samples are out there....found them on the internet.......I liked the Unjury chicken broth---made me feel like I was having a meal.....still like it today. Some protein powders made thick shakes, and for me, they don't go down so easily -- Unjury is thinner---the chocolate is like chocolate milk......I also like Premier Protein ready to drink shakes.....available at Walmart, walgreens, costco.

I made a Syrup out of a sample of Syntrax nectar Wild Cherry Protein Powder (used less water).....and poured that over shaved ice for a snow cone.....it was okay.....but being on full liquids, nothing solid, it was nectar of the gods as far as I was concerned LOL

Good luck.......VSG has changed my life......I haven't been this weight in 25 years.....I'm 4 months out and it's had a positive impact on every aspect of my life-----and feeling better about myself is the greatest.....Wishing you nothing but the best and an easy surgery/recover...

Did you get a post op diet to follow? I had Protein drinks, broth, farina, SF ice pops and SF pudding. Don't buy too much, you won't be able to eat much at first and you will be moving through the liquid stage to purees in a week or two.

Good luck!

Protein shakes.. cold and room temp gets old.. try chocolate in hot water... I didn't bother with the fat free broth because there's so little fat in your diet at this point for me the low sodium was better. Plain protein powder to add to broth.. jello..

Unflavored Unjury was a God send for me. The sweet Protein Drinks made me gag. I was able to make my own chocolate/ Peanut Butter smoothies myself with unsweetened cocoa, PB2 powdered peanut butter, and stevia to my sweetness liking. I still drink them today because they are that good. I did eat Jello, but can't stomach it now. Everyone is right....don't buy a lot. You don't know what you will like after surgery anyway. You're safe with the Popsicles and jello. Jello was something to chew. Ice may not work. Some people reject it. Best wishes!!!

broth, Jello, Decaf and herbal teas (I loved Taos' Zen Green tea!!), Water, crystal light ... How long is your clear liquid phase? This might give you some ideas for the full liquids stage:

Sf pudding, Water flavoring like mio etc, cream Soups and broths, sf Jello, premiere Protein or whatever type you choose- just remember protein you like now will probably be too sweet post op. Gas x, Miralax or milk of magnesia, heat pad

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
