Ok I am newly banded and still on the liquid diet, November 22nd. I have not been hungry but tonight I did something that I feel very guilty about. First, I am the cook so it is hard to be involved in the cooking process and not eat, tonight I was fixing Left over turkey for the family and I without really thinking took a bit, I chewed it about 20 times and spat it out.....All I could think of is what if someone saw me.....but later I was fixing my broth and I wanted something, i guess with texture. I took a small red potato ,already cooked, and peeled it. I cut it up and put it in my broth. I cooked them together and then placed the liquids and potato in the blender. It was the consistency of a cream Soup. I ate a very small bowl of it. I am nit feeling pain or anything, but feel like I have broken the law. I am hoping that this did not cause any harm At this stage. Anyone who has already had the band in place, please advice.

Thanks

Speaking as a bandster not a doc... it's probably not a problem. Especially if you only did it the one time. BUT you really should follow your own surgeon's post op diet progression directions. :)

Post op diet is so meh. But it is for our own good. It's designed to let our stomach heal properly and let our band settle into place and everything get ready to work together. I am in the first week of mushies... Have to do three, if I remember correctly. I am already craving solids. I am sticking hardcore to the plan. Bring on the Cream of Wheat. LOL

do your best not to deviate from your doctor's schedule. even if something goes down OK, you have to remember this is a time for healing from the surgery and this new foreign item sutured into your body. moving forward before the doctor says you can, could potentially cause issues. Having said that, at least what you had was still liquid though the blended potato made it thicker than broth. Just forget about this ooops moment and get back on the scheduled food directive. Good luck with your weight loss journey!

Congrats on the surgery. You really need to let your stomach and the band heal, that is why there is a post-op meal plan. We have all been there and before you know it you will be having real food again. I have a mentally challenged brother and it was his birthday while I was on post-op liquids. I took him for dinner and watched him eat a big fat ass steak and drank tea.

Good luck. Just remember it isn't the end of the world to go without food. Just make sure you get in the Protein that your dietitian tells you is ok.

My post-op diet drags out a full year. The last thing he allows back at the 12 month mark, is slab meat; steak, lamb/pork chops, etc. In the beginning, every (either) 14-28 days, different foods were added back. I was doing so well, so I asked him…..is the post-op diet progression about healing, or about retraining our new eating habits. He said that it's ALL about the healing process. He also said that the patients who leap ahead of schedule, are the ones who end up having problems.

Contrary to what I heard people post in another thread, HE is the doctor, and he knows what is best. The other thread I refer to (don't remember the title), but someone was asking about eating something prematurely in their early post-op diet. About three people posted something along the lines of "what does the doctor know, he doesn't have the band". Really?! I had to read that twice because I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Unbelievable…. Like telling a cardiologist that he doesn't know what he's talking about, because he never had triple bypass surgery.

Anyway….sorry for the mini rant….. I agree with the above poster that said you're probably fine, but move forward and follow your doc's post-op plan closely. It really is important, and in spite of what some people tell themselves, the doctor doesn't need to have a band to know what's best. Geez……still shaking my head on that one

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
