Problems Holding Food Down

Recommended Posts

Had my sleeve done on December 8, 2013. At this point I can barely take 2 or 3 bites of anything without it coming back up. Was just wondering if anyone else was having the same problem??

Do you mean November 8, 2013? I had mine on the 22 November and everything stays down. Small sips and no liquids while eating my yogurt and puree Soups.< /p>

Are you making sure to take very small bites, chew them up really well and not drink anything when eating?

Sorry I did mean November 8th. I guess I still get confused on what all I should be eating. I do have a problem drinking when I eat. That I do need to work on! If you make a Protein Shake how much of it can you drink? I feel so overwhelmed!!

Have you talked to to Nut you saw before surgery? Since every Doctor is different. I would call them and ask ask ask. But small sips of things until you comfortable with that then move forward to the next stage. From the support groups I have been going to everyone is different. I hope that helps.

I had my surgery November 7 and I know what you mean. I can't really drink more than 4-5 ounces (I measure) in about 20 min. When I try to do the protien shakes the thickness makes it even less. I am now supposed to be on softs since Saturday and tried a scrambled egg and ate maybe half. Seems like I should be having more volume but I guess my sleeve may not be ready. I have not vomited yet but have had moments where I thought it was coming up.

As I have read alot on the forums, I am curious as if it is related to the healing of the sleeve itself (swelling etc) and the size of the sleeve itself (based on the bougie used). Any thoughts???

The bariatric nurse called me this evening to see how I am doing. I did tell her that today after I would drink Water , ver slowly..one -the oz per hour I would regurgitate most of evetyhing.. She told me that my enters r swollen and this dill sh side. Another thing she told me was to walk a lot. I ate a little bit of sugerfreepiddinm walked sround the house for about 5 minutes and my pudding digested. So I think the first couple of days we are healing big time. And this may happen.. But walking does help with the gas and throwing up the liquids. If it persists, then contact your dr .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
