December 2013 Sleevers This Is Our Month Are Yall Ready!?

Recommended Posts

Up, showered, dressed, and eating my Popsicle! As soon as doc gets here, it's home for me. Feel AMAZING this morning. Very excited for a new, healthier me :)

Yay, I had my sleeve and hiatal hernia repaired yesterday and am feeling very well. No problems. I am still in the hospital, gong home today. I am so happy to join the other slleevers on the other side! No regrets whatsoever.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Very excited to start my new life!

So tomorrow is the big day and I know I'm ready but damn I wish this anxiety I have would take off!

Not gonna lie, I did throw a going away party for my stomach last night. I wasn't on any pre op diet but today I'm instructed to drink liquids only, up till midnight and then nothing after that.

So who else will be getting sleeved on the 18th?

Besides chap stick, is there anything else that I need to remember to bring?

I'll be all alone in this as my husband will be left caring for my daughter and I have chosen not to tell anyone else about the surgery. My husband will come visit me sometime after I get out of surgery. Would it be safe for me to bring my phone to the surgery? I don't want it to get stolen but how else can I call my husband once I'm awake?

You can put your cell in ur pants pocket inside ur belonging bag. They will keep ur items safe until moving to your new room. My lotion has been my friend. I was sooo dry from not eating or drinking, yes had I've fluids but not the same. My first day was a little rough. Good luck!

Ree: some useful items to bring ...

--Cell phone & charger

-Chapstick

-- eye glass case if needed

--Lotion and deodorant After surgery cause your skin will be super dry

--Large overnight sanitary napkins if you are on your period otherwise you will have to use and triple up their really thin ones and risk leaking onto your bed sheets if you have a heavy flow like me

--- firm pillow for ride home to protect your incisions from seatbelt and potholes

-- change of clothes and undies, loose fitting and warm if its winter for you

--sneakers and coat you should come To hospital with already

-- purse to carry insurance and ID along with all the home care and discharge forms they have you

I think that's it really - pack as light as you can

From my experience....

**Books were pointless for me cause I was in too much pain or too sleepy to enjoy a good read -- they have a TV in room

**slippers pointless cause they give you the good grip warm socks and you can't really take a full shower while in the hospital unless doc permits it

** you'll be in hospital gown and can ask for many blankets to walk around in if too cold or exposed so no need for night gown and robe

**theyll provide gas meds and an abdominal binder if you ask for it so no need to bring any GasX strips

**they provide soap and toothpaste toothbrush

Hey everyone. Never really wrote anything on here. I mostly just lurked around the forums, reading.

Today is my surgery in the beautiful South Florida and I'm a little nervous but I know I'm going to be okay. I started my pre op diet two weeks ago at 270 and today I'm at 253.

Anyways In about an hour, I'll go to the hospital!

Thanks for the tips! I actually just sent my husband out to get me some gasX strips just in case I might need them. I have to be at the hospital at 10:45 am and my surgery will be around 12: 45 pm. I'm trying to do everything I need to do now, before tomorrow. I have already made a bunch of meals for my husband and daughter so they don't go without while I'm not here, plus extra meals for when I get out of the hospital so I don't have to prepare and cook meals for them. Overhauled my kitchen and cleaned it all out so there aren't any tempting foods in this house. Got all the Christmas gifts all wrapped so I don't have to worry about doing that after surgery when I may be too weak to do that. Now I shall focus on myself and prepare for tomorrow's surgery. :)

I'm counting down the hours now and my poor stomach likes to show it's hurt by being angry. I swear I've been getting yelled at all night by my stomach. Kind of feel bad that I'm severing it in just hours from now but it's coming between me and where I'm trying to go. It's standing in my way.

I will try to get on here and give an update once I am out of surgery and alert enough to respond. Surgery is scheduled for 12:45 am. I need to be at the hospital at 10:45 am. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

Quick Update: My surgery went perfect yesterday. I'm lying in bed with mild pain. I'm not allowed anything other than ice chips and they make me nauseous!! I was asleep most of the day yesterday except when I had to walk. The actual walking isn't bad, its getting out of bed that's bad. Today I feel more awake... And feel a lot more pain even with the morphine

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
